International street photography competition at Villa Altieri, Rome
Rome Photo Lab is the international festival and competition dedicated to street photography, held annually in Rome within the 17th-century Villa Altieri—the Palace of Culture and Historical Memory of the Metropolitan City of Rome, located in the Esquilino district. The event celebrates the street as a stage for life, highlighting the messages and emotions that every shot can convey.
At the heart of the event is the international competition, divided into two categories: Single Shot, for individual images, and Series, for photographic sequences. The «Streets of the World» and «Rome, an Open-Air Museum» sections welcome photographers from over thirty countries each year, judged by an international jury of renowned photographers, curators, and photo editors. The best finalists exhibit their work in a dedicated show at Villa Altieri.
In addition to the exhibitions, Rome Photo Lab offers a packed program of meetings with world-class authors, thematic workshops, and «Touch & Try» sessions dedicated to photography gear. Don't miss the photo walks through the streets of the Capital, a perfect opportunity to practice street photography in the most authentic corners of Rome.
Founded in 2023 by the Alpido Association in collaboration with communities like IgersRoma, Riprendiamoci Roma, and RRStreet International Hub, Rome Photo Lab has grown rapidly to become one of the most anticipated events on the European street photography scene. After its first edition at the Biblioteca Angelica, the event found its home at Villa Altieri, in the Municipality of Rome, the heart of the Lazio Region.
From October 2 to 4, 2026, Villa Altieri will host the fourth edition of the festival: three days of vernissages, award ceremonies, conferences, and social gatherings that bring the Esquilino district to life and confirm Rome as an international capital of street photography.
