About Velletri Tripe Festival

In early September, Velletri, located in the heart of the Castelli Romani, dedicates four evenings to two pillars of Lazio's popular cuisine: Roman-style tripe, slow-cooked with a sauté base, tomato, Roman mint, and pecorino cheese, and Velletri-style fettuccine, rolled out by hand in front of the public. At the former Amore area along the Via Appia, food and wine stands are accompanied each evening by dance schools, concerts, comedy shows, vintage car rallies, and traditional games like slingshot shooting. Admission is free, and the atmosphere is that of a genuine village festival.

A festival in the heart of the Castelli Romani

The Roman-Style Tripe and Velletri Fettuccine Festival takes place in Velletri, a town in the metropolitan city of Rome nestled on the slopes of the Alban Hills in the Lazio region. For four days in early September, the former Amore area along the Via Appia transforms into a large, convivial space featuring food and wine stalls, a stage for performances, and open-air dining. The event is organized by the APS Tradizioni e Sapori de Noiatri with the patronage and support of the City of Velletri, the backing of the Accademia della Trippa alla Romana and the Associazione Città del Vino, in collaboration with the Lazio Region and ARSIAL.

The two star dishes

The undisputed queen of the festival is the Roman-style tripe, prepared according to the classic recipe: cleaned and boiled for a long time, it is then simmered in a rich sauté of onion, carrot, and celery with tomato and Roman mint, and served with a generous dusting of pecorino cheese. Alongside it is the Velletri-style fettuccine, strictly hand-rolled and served with traditional sauces, from tomato with chili and parsley to beef ragù with porcini mushrooms. On the opening night, visitors can watch a live demonstration of fettuccine preparation, a small display of artisanal skill that tells the story of Velletri's home cooking better than any words.

Music, dance, and comedy every night

The evening program alternates between performances by local dance schools and concerts by popular and party bands, leading up to the grand finale on Sunday with a comedy show and live music. The 2025 edition featured, among others, the Valentina Band, I Figli delle Stelle, I Guaranà, and Mirco e gli Ottava Nota, with a comedy interlude by Signora Gilda. There is no shortage of moments dedicated to tradition and families: slingshot shooting in the afternoon, activities for children, and, on Sunday morning, a vintage car rally that brings the Via Appia to life.

Velletri, a land of wine and flavors

Velletri is one of the historic capitals of Castelli Romani wine, and the festival is its natural showcase: alongside the food stalls, local wine producers offer the chance to pair a glass of Colli Albani wine with the tripe and fettuccine. The event was created specifically to promote the food and wine traditions of the area, in a setting where Roman and Velletri popular cuisines meet.

Velletri Tripe Festival — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Roman-Style Tripe and Velletri Fettuccine Festival has not yet been officially announced. Based on tradition, the event is expected to return in early September to the former Amore area of Velletri, along the Via Appia, featuring stands with Roman-style tripe and handmade fettuccine, Castelli Romani wines, and evenings of music and dance. Dates will be updated as soon as the organizers announce them.

At the moment, the APS Tradizioni e Sapori de Noiatri has not yet communicated the official dates for the 2026 edition of the festival. The previous edition took place from September 4 to 7, 2025, in the former Amore area of Velletri, with four evenings of food and wine stalls, demonstrations of fettuccine preparation, dance school performances, concerts, and the Sunday vintage car rally.

If the format is confirmed, the 2026 festival should also span four days in early September, with free admission, evening opening of the stands, and a grand finale on Sunday featuring lunch, a comedy show, and live music. We recommend following the organization's channels and the Municipality of Velletri for official announcements.
