Urban walks, workshops, and participatory art in the historic center of Rome

The Rione Roma Tour Festival is an itinerant cultural event held annually in the historic center of Rome, winding through the alleys of Rione Ponte and the squares of Municipality I. Conceived and organized by the Bluecheese Project APS association, the festival stems from extensive urban regeneration and community engagement work. Its goal is to tell the story of the city from a fresh perspective: moving beyond postcard-perfect monuments to capture the poetry of everyday spaces, local shops, courtyards, and the stories of those who live in the neighborhood every day.
The heart of the festival lies in its thematic toursโtrue urban walks led by residents, artists, experts, and local citizens. Alongside these walking routes, the program features creative workshops, site-specific installations, photographic exhibitions scattered throughout the alleys, and participatory art moments that directly involve the public. Each edition is built around a central theme, ranging from exploring "alien" and foreign elements integrated into Roman culture to initiatives for individual and territorial well-being, as well as imaginative cartography of the city.
More than just a series of events, the Rione Roma Tour Festival is a project of cultural welfare and social cohesion: activities are born from dialogue with local residents and aim to enhance the collective memory of the area. Curators guide the public through urban trekking, sound tours, astronomical walks, and itineraries dedicated to street art and hidden gardens, providing a vivid, layered portrait of the Capital. Participation is free, with mandatory booking required for most appointments.
Included in the cultural summer calendar of the Municipality of Rome, in the Lazio Region, the festival has gained support over the years from Roma Capitale through calls dedicated to widespread culture, including the Estate Romana public notice and the Roma Creativa 365 program. Its editions are traditionally held in August, when the historic center empties of its usual rhythm, becoming the ideal stage for a slow and attentive look at the city.
The Rione Roma Tour Festival 2026 is planned for the historic center of Rome, within the framework of the municipal program Roma Creativa 365, which selected the Bluecheese Project APS proposal for the 2025-2026 biennium. This edition is expected to follow the festival's consolidated format: guided thematic tours, creative workshops, site-specific installations, and moments of participatory art throughout the alleys of Rione Ponte.
At the moment, the official dates and the detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been released. Information will be shared by the organizers on the official website and the festival's social media channels: we invite you to check for updates before planning your visit.
The festival takes place in the historic center of Rome, primarily in the Rione Ponte area (near Piazza Navona, Via dei Coronari, and Via dell'Arco di Parma). It is easily accessible on foot from Termini Station or via bus lines heading toward Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and Largo di Torre Argentina.
Participation in activities is free, but almost all events require mandatory booking due to limited space. Information and the updated program are available on the official website rioneroma.it and via email at [email protected].
As these are urban walks, comfortable shoes, water, and a hat are recommended during the hottest hours of the day. Many tours start early in the morning or in the late afternoon to avoid the summer heat.
