Piazza Malatesta becomes a large open-air playroom
For one day, the heart of Rimini fills with tables, cards, dice, and laughter: Rimini in Gioco transforms Piazza Malatesta into a large open-air playroom, in line with the World Day of Play. The initiative, promoted by the Youth Policies Office of the Municipality of Rimini, restores the square's vocation as a meeting place, where people of all ages and backgrounds can sit together and rediscover the pleasure of shared play.
Participation is completely free and open to everyone. Tables and benches are set up in the square where anyone can sit down and choose from a rich catalog of offerings: board games, role-playing games, card games, and traditional wooden games. Demonstrators and volunteers from local gaming associations guide participants, ready to explain the rules and even suggest a few unspoken strategies.
The absolute star is the Ludobus by Scombussolo - Games for All, the van full of traditional wooden games that has been active since 1996, offering skill challenges for adults and children alike. The event is the result of a network of gaming realities from Rimini and San Marino: in collaboration with the Municipality, Formula Servizi alle Persone Cooperative and The Rainbow Players APS are involved, alongside GiocOvunque, La Torre APS, Queers&Dragons, Taverna Titano, and Zuga Remni APS. An information space is also dedicated to GiochiAmo, the project through which volunteers bring hours of play and recreation to young patients in the wards of the Rimini Infermi Hospital.
The World Day of Play was established in 1997 by the International Toy Library Association and is recognized internationally: it is celebrated in over forty countries worldwide with the aim of affirming the right to play and promoting its value in all its forms. In Rimini, in the heart of Romagna, this occasion becomes a community event that combines fun, social interaction, and gaming culture in the evocative setting of Piazza Malatesta.
The 2026 edition of Rimini in Gioco took place on Saturday, May 30, 2026, starting at 4:00 PM in Piazza Malatesta, with completely free admission. The square was set up with tables and benches to welcome anyone who wanted to sit down and play, choosing from a rich catalog of options guided by volunteers from local associations.
The initiative, promoted by the Municipality of Rimini's Youth Policies Office along with Formula Servizi alle Persone Cooperative and The Rainbow Players APS, involved seven gaming realities from Rimini and San Marino, with the Ludobus by Scombussolo as the main attraction and an information space dedicated to the GiochiAmo project.
