About Reinventare

Reinventare is a theatre and performing arts festival that brings the contemporary scene to the neighbourhoods of Ostia and Rome's Municipio X every autumn. Conceived and directed by Emilio Genazzini for the Associazione La Capriola โ€“ Abraxa Teatro, the festival features innovative theatre companies, readings, workshops, and meetings, centered at the Teatro Nino Manfredi with events held in libraries, cultural spaces, and the picturesque Borghetto dei Pescatori. All performances are free of charge, subject to availability.

A festival reinventing Rome's suburbs

Reinventare is a theatre and performing arts project that has been traversing the neighbourhoods of Ostia and Rome's Municipio X in the heart of the Lazio coast since 2023. The concept is simple yet ambitious: to take contemporary performance out of the city centre, restoring a rich and continuous cultural life to the suburbs. The festival is conceived and curated by the Associazione La Capriola ETS โ€“ Abraxa Teatro, under the artistic direction of Emilio Genazzini, and was born as a response to the need for a more polycentric and inclusive city.

Teatro Nino Manfredi and beyond

The festival's nerve centre is the Teatro Nino Manfredi in Ostia Lido, located on Via dei Pallottini, but the programme extends to numerous local venues: municipal libraries, cultural hubs, museums, and the evocative Borghetto dei Pescatori, overlooking the sea. This approach transforms the entire Municipio X into a widespread stage where guided walks, readings, and performances engage with everyday life.

Innovative theatre and international guests

Reinventare primarily showcases experimental and innovative theatre companies. Past editions have hosted prominent figures from the international scene, such as Eugenio Barba and Julia Varley of the Odin Teatret, actress Iben Nagel Rasmussen, and the Compagnia Fo Rame, alongside numerous Italian groups including Teatro Nucleo, Circomare Teatro, Teatro Roget, Teatrop, Teatro Origine, La Bottega dei Comici, and Ygramul Teatro.

A programme for everyone

The bill alternates evening performances, morning shows for schools and families, theatrical readings in libraries, workshops, and artist encounters. There are offerings for children, such as kamishibai theatre, as well as reflections on the periphery as a human and cultural condition. The formula thus combines entertainment, research, and civic engagement.

A project supported by institutions

Reinventare is realised with the support of the Ministry of Culture โ€“ Directorate General for Entertainment and was a winner of the Roma Creativa 365 public call promoted by Roma Capitale, having previously been selected by the "Lo spettacolo fuori dal Centro" grant. This recognition confirms the value of a festival capable of combining artistic quality with deep roots in the Lazio territory.
