About Last Journey of Saint Amato

In Saludecio, a village in the Valconca region of the province of Rimini, the Re-enactment of the Last Journey of Saint Amato Ronconi retraces on foot the footsteps of the last journey of the pilgrim saint, patron of the town. The first part of the journey starts from the historic center of Saludecio and reaches San Clemente, on an itinerary that combines Franciscan spirituality, hilly landscape, and historical memory. The initiative is part of the celebrations for the VIII Centenary of the saint's birth (1226-2026) and invites pilgrims and walkers to experience a slow journey through the Romagna hills.

A Journey in the Footsteps of the Pilgrim Saint

The Re-enactment of the Last Journey of Saint Amato Ronconi is a commemorative pilgrimage that takes place in Saludecio, an ancient village perched on the hills of Valconca, in the province of Rimini (Emilia-Romagna). The initiative retraces on foot the route taken by the saint in the last phase of his life, starting from the heart of the town that venerates him as its patron and protector.

Who was Saint Amato Ronconi

Amato Ronconi (1226-1292) is one of the most beloved figures of Romagna spirituality. A man of charity and hospitality, he was a pilgrim four times to the Sanctuary of Santiago de Compostela and founded a hospice in Saludecio to welcome travelers heading to Rome, a structure that still retains its vocation of hospitality today. Proclaimed a saint in 2014, he is the first saint of the Diocese of Rimini and is considered the patron saint of pilgrims and of the Valconca region.

The Route: From Saludecio to San Clemente

The first part of the re-enactment begins in the historic center of Saludecio, with a meeting in the early morning, and winds along the hilly paths to reach the municipality of San Clemente. It is a slow journey, accessible to those who love nature and spirituality, crossing landscapes of vineyards, olive groves, and ancient villages, offering panoramic views of the Rimini hinterland.

The VIII Centenary Celebrations

The re-enactment is part of the rich calendar of celebrations for the 800th anniversary of the birth of Saint Amato (1226-2026), a widespread program that Saludecio and the municipalities of Valconca have dedicated to the saint under the banner of the "spirit of Assisi in the heart of Romagna." Alongside the walking moments, the initiatives include religious celebrations, conferences on the saint's spirituality and history, processions, extraordinary openings of art sites and the sanctuary, and musical and cultural events.

An Experience of Slow Walking

More than just an event, the re-enactment is an invitation to rediscover the value of walking as a gesture of faith and encounter. Pilgrims, local associations, and simple walkers share the path in a collected atmosphere, in line with the message of charity, peace, and care for creation that characterized Amato Ronconi's life. The event also contributes to promoting slow and religious tourism in Valconca, in view of the Jubilee.
