The Pro Loco Carnival celebration at the Salone Polifunzionale
When February arrives, the small town of Quaregna Cerreto, in the heart of the Biella area (Province of Biella, Piedmont), dresses up in colors and masks for its Carnival. It is organized by Pro Loco Quaregna, a social promotion association founded in 2004 that has been enlivening village life for years with seasonal festivals and events. Don't expect giant allegorical floats or big-city parades: here, the Carnival is the authentic village kind, made of neighborhood spirit, laughter, and handed-down traditions.
The heart of the day takes place in the Salone Polifunzionale of Quaregna, sheltered from the winter cold. The afternoon is a sequence of moments designed to entertain both young and old: games and skill competitions, the long-awaited breaking of the pignatte โ those terracotta pots filled with sweets and surprises that children try to break while blindfolded โ and finally, a lovely snack for everyone. It is an event accessible to every family, where the atmosphere is relaxed and the true star is being together.
The Quaregna Carnival is part of the rich calendar of winter festivals in the Biella territory, where every village has its own customs. In the surrounding area, February is also the month of the fagiolata (bean stew festival), the other great convivial event that the same Pro Loco offers to the community. Participating in these events means discovering the most genuine and hospitable side of Piedmont, far from mass tourism circuits, where volunteer associations keep traditions alive from generation to generation.
The Quaregna Carnival is one of those small events that make a difference in a village's winter: simple, warm, and capable of bringing all ages together.
On Sunday, February 8, 2026, from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM, the Salone Polifunzionale of Quaregna Cerreto hosted the Carnival organized by Pro Loco Quaregna. The afternoon program alternated between games and skill competitions, the traditional breaking of the pignatte for the joy of the little ones, and a shared snack. Participation required a contribution of โฌ10 per person, adults and children, with the snack included, and reservations were recommended.
