About Quail Festival

In Villaganzerla, a hamlet of Castegnero in the Berici Hills, the Quail Festival is a delicious late spring event. Combined with the historic San Giuseppe Festival, it offers its unmistakable specialty over two weekends between April and May: spit-roasted quail, slowly cooked according to traditional Venetian recipes, served with rich polenta. A food stall, an artisan exhibition, and live music complete the festival.

Spit-Roasted Quail, a Specialty Requiring Patience

In Villaganzerla, a hamlet of the Municipality of Castegnero in the Berici Hills, province of Vicenza, spring brings one of the most characteristic gastronomic festivals in the area: the Quail Festival, which in 2026 will celebrate its 21st edition, combined with the 114th San Giuseppe Festival. The absolute star is the spit-roasted quail, prepared with slow cooking and care that make it the signature dish: reservations the day before are recommended to enjoy it.

A Table Rich in Tradition

The roasted quail is served with rich polenta and, new for the 2026 edition, coppa. Alongside it, the food stall offers Venetian cuisine specialties: sliced colt, stewed donkey "alla Roberto", ribs, grilled salami, and a rich mixed grill with pancetta, chicken, and meat. The evenings combine good food with live music, in a genuine and welcoming village festival atmosphere.

Craftsmanship, Folklore, and Community

In addition to gastronomy, the festival offers cultural and folkloric entertainment, with artisan stalls, art exhibitions, and musical performances. Organized by the San Giuseppe Festival committee of Villaganzerla with the support of the Municipality of Castegnero, the event is an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Berici Hills and its food and wine tradition.
