Classical Music Amidst the Sassi
Prospettive Music Festival is one of the most important classical music reviews in Basilicata. Organized by LAMS Matera (Laboratory for Art, Music, and Performance) together with the Rocco D'Ambrosio Association, the event offers a rich program of concerts each year that unfolds throughout the spring months, choosing some of the most beautiful locations in Matera as venues: Palazzo Viceconte, the Church of San Giovanni Battista, the Sanctuary of San Francesco da Paola, and other historic spaces in the city.
Great Performers and Young Talents
The festival brings together renowned Italian and international artists with young musicians who have won international competitions. Piano recitals, chamber music, string quartets, and symphonic evenings create a high-quality experience, with a repertoire ranging from the Baroque to Romanticism and the 20th century, with particular care given to promoting the Orchestra of Matera and Basilicata.
A Festival Spread Throughout the City
One of Prospettive's most appreciated features is the choice to bring music into the city's heritage sites: churches, sanctuaries, and historic palaces become concert halls with a strong evocative power, where the acoustics and atmosphere of the Sassi enhance the listening experience. Many events are free admission, confirming the festival's popular and educational mission.

Prospettive Music Festival — edition 2026
For 2026, Prospettive Music Festival animated Matera from March 7 to June 5, confirming its formula of blending great performers, young talents, and the Orchestra of Matera and Basilicata. Concerts were held in some of the city's most evocative venues, from Palazzo Viceconte to the Sanctuary of San Francesco da Paola.
The review is organized by LAMS Matera and the Rocco D'Ambrosio Association, with a repertoire spanning from the Baroque to the 20th century.

The program for the 2026 edition included, among others, these documented events:
- March 7 (Palazzo Viceconte): "Il canto e l'ombra" (The Song and the Shadow), Orchestra of Matera and Basilicata conducted by Nurhan Arman, solo violinist Vadim Tchijik;
- March 22: "Suite sudamericana";
- March 28 (Sanctuary of San Francesco da Paola): "Stabat Mater – Concerto della Passione" (Stabat Mater – Passion Concert), Orchestra of Matera and Basilicata conducted by Tadeusz Wicherek, soloists Tehmine Schaeffer (soprano) and Maria Cardascia (mezzo-soprano);
- April 16, 8:30 PM (Sanctuary of San Francesco da Paola): "Contrasti e Armonia – da Mozart a Beethoven" (Contrasts and Harmony – from Mozart to Beethoven), Abigeila Voshtina (violin) and Lucrezia Merolla (piano), free admission;
- June 5: "Tra Europa e Buenos Aires" (Between Europe and Buenos Aires), featuring Fabio Furia on the bandoneon.

How to get there: Matera is connected to Bari by the FAL railway line; by car, it can be reached via the SS99 from Altamura or the SS7 from Taranto. The concert venues are located in the historic center.
