The amateur and dialect theater festival by the Pro Loco Lido Panzone
The Pro Loco Lido Panzone Theater Season is the winter festival of amateur and dialect theater that enlivens the Municipal Theater of Bisenti, a small town in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo. Launched in the 2022/2023 season, the festival has quickly established itself as one of the village's most anticipated cultural events, drawing spectators from across the Val Fino and neighboring towns.
Organized by the Pro Loco Lido Panzone of Bisenti in collaboration with U.I.L.T. (Italian Union of Free Theater) and under the patronage of the Municipality of Bisenti, the season is dedicated to the memory of the late Professor Michele Notturno, a key figure in the town's cultural life.
The schedule unfolds throughout the winter months, with a series of performances running from late November to early March. The protagonists are amateur theater companies from the Abruzzo region, who primarily perform brilliant comedies in dialect: a form of popular theater rooted in humor, tradition, and a strong local identity, where the Abruzzese vernacular becomes both an expressive tool and a social gathering point for the community.
Each evening is a celebration: the municipal theater fills up, laughter accompanies the scenes on stage, and the audience recognizes the atmosphere of village life in the characters and language. The troupes animating the festival include groups such as La Sfasciata, Perstareinsieme, Teatro In…Stabile, and the local Bisenti company …e compagnia bella.
The festival is set against the charm of Bisenti, an ancient village of pre-Roman origins nestled in the upper Fino river valley, at the northeastern foothills of the Gran Sasso. The historic center preserves a medieval atmosphere, with its tower, narrow streets, and a church whose bell tower dominates the main square. Local tradition even claims that Bisenti is the birthplace of Pontius Pilate. In this context, the theater season represents an important pillar of the town's social and cultural life, celebrating the linguistic heritage and community spirit of this small Abruzzese town.
The 2025/2026 season, the fourth edition of the festival, opened on November 30, 2025, with La Fenestre Azzurre d'Ofenia by the La Sfasciata troupe. The program continued in 2026 with three events at the Municipal Theater of Bisenti.
The festival was organized by the Pro Loco Lido Panzone in collaboration with U.I.L.T. and under the patronage of the Municipality of Bisenti, continuing its dedication to the memory of Professor Michele Notturno.
Performances are held at the Municipal Theater of Bisenti, in the center of the village, in the province of Teramo.
By car, Bisenti can be reached from the Adriatic coast (A14 motorway exit Pescara or Roseto degli Abruzzi) by traveling up the Val Fino, or from Teramo via inland roads. The nearest train stations are Pescara or Giulianova, followed by local bus connections.
