About Presente Prossimo
Literature that tells the present
Presente Prossimo is the travelling literary festival of the Valle Seriana, in the province of Bergamo, which for over fifteen editions has brought authors from the Italian scene to dialogue with readers in the valley. Promoted by the Valle Seriana Library System with the support of Regione Lombardia, the festival uses literature as a lens to read the present, exploring the great themes of contemporaneity: identity, relationships, memory, change, and feelings.
A travelling festival across nine municipalities
The formula is that of a travelling festival: meetings are held in the libraries and auditoriums of nine municipalities — Albino, Ranica, Alzano Lombardo, Gazzaniga, Nembro, Clusone, Vertova, Rovetta, and Villa di Serio — involving the entire valley community. Alongside author encounters, the programme offers workshops and original formats, such as the workshop on the therapeutic power of books and the 'writer in residence'.
Authors and guests
Each edition attracts prominent names in Italian fiction, poetry, and journalism. In recent seasons, the festival has hosted, among others, finalists of the Premio Strega and leading journalists, confirming it as an anticipated event for readers in Bergamo. Meetings are free admission until seats are filled.
Presente Prossimo — edition 2026
The XVI edition of Presente Prossimo animated the Valle Seriana from November 2025 to February 2026, with meetings hosted in the libraries and auditoriums of nine municipalities, including Alzano Lombardo. The first phase, between November and December 2025, featured five author encounters accompanied by a workshop on the therapeutic power of books; January and February 2026 presented new names and the unprecedented 'writer in residence' format.
