The ceremony celebrating Italian excellence in the Peligna Valley
The Premio Nazionale Pratola is one of the most prestigious award ceremonies in the Abruzzo region. Founded in 2012 in Pratola Peligna, in the province of L'Aquila, by the Associazione Culturale Futile Utile, the award has quickly evolved into a national-level event, attracting a stellar cast of figures from the worlds of culture, entertainment, and media to the Peligna Valley.
The initiative, curated by journalists Ennio and Pierpaolo Bellucci, was born with a clear objective: to recognize the value of those who, in their respective fields, contribute to making our country more stable, free, and livable. Award categories range from culture and journalism to sports, art, literature, economics, scientific research, music, and social commitment.
The ceremony takes place in the stunning Abbey of Santo Spirito al Morrone, a grand Celestinian complex located in the Badia-Bagnaturo district, at the foot of the Morrone massif between Pratola Peligna and Sulmona. Linked to the figure of Pietro del Morrone, the hermit who would become Pope Celestine V, the monument offers a setting of profound spiritual and historical charm, perfect for an event that weaves together culture, memory, and gratitude.
Over the years, the Premio Nazionale Pratola has brought prominent writers, television journalists, sports champions, actors, and researchers to the Peligna Valley. The format, sober yet impactful, alternates the presentation of awards with musical performances and speeches recounting the stories of the honorees, often in the presence of well-known hosts and public figures.
The event is supported by the Abruzzo Region and local institutions, confirming its role in promoting the Peligna territory and projecting it onto the national cultural stage. For culture enthusiasts and visitors to the province of L'Aquila, the Premio Nazionale Pratola represents a unique opportunity to experience an evening of great depth in one of Abruzzo's most evocative locations.
The 17th edition of the Premio Nazionale Pratola was held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in the evocative Abbey of Santo Spirito al Morrone, confirming the national vocation of the event organized by the Associazione Culturale Futile Utile. The ceremony brought together leading names from the worlds of sports, journalism, literature, and entertainment, in an evening hosted by Rete 8 journalist Enrico Giancarli.
There was great anticipation for the awarding of Francesca Lollobrigida, Olympic skating champion, joined in the sports category by Sabatino Aracu and Duccio Marsili. Significant space was given to journalism with Antonio Polito of Corriere della Sera, Antonio Preziosi of Tg2, Lodovica Bulian, and Pierluigi Franco. For literature, Remo Rapino, winner of the Premio Campiello, was honored, while the award for cinema and theater went to Edoardo Purgatori.
The ceremony is held at the Abbey of Santo Spirito al Morrone, in the Badia-Bagnaturo district, at the foot of the Morrone massif between Pratola Peligna and Sulmona (AQ). The organizing association is based on Via Alessandro Volta in Pratola Peligna.
Pratola Peligna and Sulmona are easily accessible by car via the A25 motorway (Pratola Peligna-Sulmona exit) and by train via the Rome-Pescara line, with stops at Pratola Peligna and Sulmona.
The ceremony is open to the public. For information: Associazione Culturale Futile Utile, [email protected], official website www.premionazionalepratola.it.
