The Potato Gnocchi Festival is one of the most deeply rooted events in the traditional calendar of Valmontone, a town in the Lazio region located about 45 kilometers southeast of Rome. Organized by the Pro Loco of Valmontone, a social and tourism promotion association active since 1969, the festival has been enlivening the first evenings of August for nearly twenty years as part of the 'Estate Valmontonese' (Valmontone Summer), the seasonal program promoted in collaboration with the Municipality. The Municipality of Valmontone officially recognizes it as one of the city's traditional festivals, alongside religious feasts and other institutional events.

Potato gnocchi: tradition on the table

The absolute star is the handmade potato gnocchi, prepared according to local home-style recipes and served at the food stalls set up in the square. Past editions have featured local variations, such as 'tritello' gnocchi, a rustic preparation made from whole-wheat semolina that reflects the peasant cuisine of the villages between Rome and the Prenestini Mountains. Accompanying the first courses is the classic repertoire of Lazio festivals: grilled meats, Castelli wines, and homemade desserts to be enjoyed at tables under the stars.

Nights of Music: evenings in the square

The festival is not just about gastronomy: since the 2010s, the event has been paired with the Nights of Music concert series, featuring live performances and entertainment that turn Piazza della Repubblica into an open-air stage.
