The Potato Festival in Parabita

In the heart of Salento, in Parabita (Province of Lecce, Apulia), there is a summer event that draws residents and visitors every year: the Potato Festival. Traditionally held in the second ten days of July, it transforms the streets and squares of the village into a large open-air restaurant, dedicated to one of the most humble and versatile ingredients of local peasant cuisine.

The potato as the star of the table

The common thread of the festival is, naturally, the potato, offered at food stalls in all its forms. Options range from baked potatoes scented with Mediterranean herbs to crispy french fries, from velvety mashed potatoes to gnocchi with sauce, and even traditional soups where the potato is paired with seasonal vegetables.
