About Ponte Longobarda

In the hamlet of Ponte, an ancient village in the Valnerina valley, the Pro Loco Borgo Cerreto-Ponte brings the Lombard past of the area back to life with Ponte Longobarda — Terre di Storie e di Leggende. Featuring conferences with archaeologists and anthropologists, workshops on Lombard games for children, falconry demonstrations, a dinner with Queen Ponzia, and a trek to Ponte Castle, the event blends medieval history and legend into a late-summer weekend. A young but rapidly growing reenactment, dedicated to the early medieval roots of Cerreto di Spoleto.

In the footsteps of the Lombards in the hamlet of Ponte

The hamlet of Ponte, an ancient core of Cerreto di Spoleto in the province of Perugia, preserves early medieval memories linked to the presence of the Lombards in Valnerina and the legend of Queen Ponzia. From these roots, Ponte Longobarda — Terre di Storie e di Leggende was born, a historical reenactment organized by the Pro Loco Borgo Cerreto-Ponte APS with the patronage and support of the Municipality of Cerreto di Spoleto and the Umbria Region.

Between conference, falconry, and legend

The event alternates cultural and spectacular moments: the inaugural conference with historians, archaeologists, and anthropologists on the Lombard origins of the territory, the workshop on Lombard games for the little ones, falconry demonstrations, duels and reenactments in costume, tastings of typical products, and the evocative dinner with Queen Ponzia accompanied by live music. The weekend concludes with a guided trek to Ponte Castle, exploring the landscape and history of the valley.

A young and growing reenactment

Launched in 2023, Ponte Longobarda has grown rapidly, becoming one of the most appreciated late-summer events in Cerreto di Spoleto, successfully combining heritage valorization, educational activities for families, and tourism promotion of a village in the Valnerina valley far from the main tourist crowds.

When and where

The reenactment takes place in late summer (between late August and early September) in the hamlet of Ponte, in Cerreto di Spoleto. Some activities, such as the dinner and treks, require booking.
