The Pombia Carnival

The Pombia Carnival is the carnival celebration of the municipality of Pombia, a small town in the Province of Novara, located in the lower Novara area of Piedmont, just a stone's throw from the Ticino River and the Lagoni di Mercurago Park. As the Pro Loco announcement states every year, "with the new year comes the Pombia Carnival": a highly anticipated event that brings colors, masks, and joy to the streets of the town center.

A festival for families

This is not a large historical carnival with monumental floats, but an authentic village festival, built by volunteers for the community. The target audience is primarily families and children, who are invited to participate strictly in costume. It is Carnival as a moment of gathering—simple and warm, typical of Piedmontese folk traditions.

What to expect

• Village parade in costume, along the streets of Pombia
• Distribution of frittelle (fritters), the fried treat that is the symbol of Carnival
• Magic show for adults and children
• Snack provided to children by the Pro Loco

Where it takes place

The meeting point is the Palatenda on Vicolo Santa Caterina, near Piazza Gianelli (the Tent Theater), which serves as the covered base for the festival: convenient even in case of bad weather, it is the heart of the event from which the masked parade departs and where the show and snack take place.

Who organizes it

The event is managed by Pro Loco Pombia APS, the local promotion association that enlivens the Pombia event calendar throughout the year, from the Sagra di lavartis and beer festival to the Chestnut Festival, and even the "Mangè d'una volta" gastronomic initiatives. The Carnival is one of the most beloved appointments in their program, designed to involve the entire Pombia community.
