Edition 2025 — Pecora al Cotturo

On August 14, 2025, Rocca Pia hosted the 28th edition of the Pecora al Cotturo Festival in Piazza San Rocco. In the small mountain village of the Majella Park, the Pro Loco revived the traditional cooking of mutton in copper cauldrons with mountain herbs, accompanied by pasta dishes and arrosticini. As every year, the festival attracted a large number of visitors.

Pecora al Cotturo Festival 2025

The 2025 edition, the 28th in its history, took place as per tradition on August 14th in Rocca Pia, in the province of L'Aquila. In Piazza San Rocco, the Pro Loco revived the cooking of mutton in ancient copper cauldrons, seasoned with aromas and flavors of the past according to the recipe linked to transhumance.

Alongside the signature dish, the menu offered pasta dishes and traditional Abruzzo arrosticini. The event, which attracted a large audience to a village of just a hundred inhabitants, confirmed the festival's role as one of the most cherished gastronomic appointments of the summer in the upper Gizio Valley.
