The festival of the oldest corner of Pavullo, between fried gnocco and community memory
The Festa della Fonda is one of the most cherished events of the summer in Pavullo nel Frignano, an important center in the Modena Apennines in Emilia-Romagna. The event takes its name from the Fonda, which the people of Pavullo themselves indicate as the oldest corner of the town: the network of streets and alleys around Via del Mercato and Vicolo Tonelli, where the festival comes alive each year.
More than a spectacular fair, the Festa della Fonda is a moment of meeting and conviviality dedicated to the community, designed to enhance local traditions and the memory of the village. During the two evenings, the streets of the historic center fill with tables, chatter, and the aromas of Emilian cuisine, in a familiar atmosphere that is the authentic hallmark of Apennine village festivals.
The heart of the festival is, of course, the table. The food stand offers the most beloved specialties of Modenese cuisine, starting with the famous fried gnocco and crescentine, accompanied by cured meats and typical local products. Simple and genuine cuisine, deeply linked to the gastronomic identity of the Frignano and Emilia-Romagna regions.
Alongside the food and wine aspect, the Festa della Fonda dedicates space to the history and memory of the community with an exhibition of historical photographs that tell the story of the neighborhood and its inhabitants over the decades. The images, displayed along the streets of the Fonda, take visitors on a small journey back in time, rediscovering faces, trades, and glimpses of a Pavullo that changes but does not forget its roots.
Organized by the Associazione Culturale La Fonda with the support of the Municipality of Pavullo nel Frignano, the festival is part of the town's summer calendar and is aimed at families, residents, and tourists vacationing in the Apennines. It is the ideal opportunity to discover the historic center of Pavullo, combining the visit with a walk through the beauties of the Frignano area and perhaps a stop at the numerous other festivals and fairs that liven up the summer season.
The 2026 edition is part of the official summer calendar of the Municipality of Pavullo nel Frignano and takes place on Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12, 2026, from approximately 5:30 PM to midnight, in the historic center between Via del Mercato and Vicolo Tonelli.
This year again, the festival offers the food stand with regional specialties - fried gnocco, crescentine, and typical products of the Frignano area - and the exhibition of historical photographs dedicated to the history and memory of the community. An occasion for meeting and conviviality to enhance local traditions in the oldest corner of the town.
