The patron saint of Pizzone, a mountain village in the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park
The official patron saint of Pizzone is Saint Nicholas of Bari, celebrated on December 6th, as in many communities in Central-Southern Italy devoted to the Bishop of Myra. The occasion marks the religious calendar of the village, a small municipality of a few hundred inhabitants in the province of Isernia, and is observed with the sobriety and participation typical of winter mountain festivals.
Pizzone is one of the villages on the Molise side of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, a land of beech forests, wildlife, and silence. Ascending the upper Volturno valley, one reaches this secluded village, where the feast of Saint Nicholas takes on the value of a community event, far from mass tourism.
As often happens in small Molise villages, the patronal feast of Saint Nicholas combines religious rites with village life. The liturgical celebration and moments of gathering renew the identity of a community that carefully preserves its traditions, in one of the most precious natural settings of the central Apennines.
For December 6, 2026, Pizzone renews the feast in honor of its patron saint, Saint Nicholas of Bari. The celebration, of a religious nature, marks the winter calendar of the village. The detailed program will be announced locally by the parish and municipality in the days preceding the event.
