The Patron Saint of Ballabio
The Patronal Feast of Saint Lawrence celebrates the patron saint of Ballabio, a municipality in Valsassina, province of Lecco, at the foot of the Grigne mountains. The anniversary falls on the feast day of Saint Lawrence, August 10th, and is linked to a whole month of summer events in the town.
Between Faith, Music, and Tradition
The feast day features a captivating climb to the bell tower of Saint Lawrence with professional guides, and most notably, the Vespers of Saint Lawrence the Martyr, celebrated in Latin and Ambrosian chant by Res Musica: an event that places Ballabio within the circuit of the Festival Voces of early music. This is followed by a torchlight procession through the streets of Ballabio Inferiore and a grand tombola in the oratory.
A Summer of Events
The patronal feast is the heart of an August full of initiatives, united under the banner of summer music evenings: cover concerts, a string quartet at the Castello delle Madri Canossiane, Irish, country, and ballroom music. The organization is largely handled by the Pro Loco Ballabio, which enlivens the town in the heart of the pre-alpine summer.

In 2026, the Patronal Feast of Saint Lawrence will be held on Sunday, August 10th, the patron saint's day, at the Church of Saint Lawrence in Ballabio.
The program includes an afternoon climb to the bell tower with professional guides; at 5:00 PM, the Vespers of Saint Lawrence the Martyr, celebrated in Latin and Ambrosian chant by Res Musica, as part of the Festival Voces of early music; followed by a torchlight procession through the streets of Ballabio Inferiore and a mega tombola in the oratory.
