The saint who gives the town its name, in honour of Sant'Omobono Tucenghi
Sant'Omobono Terme, in the province of Bergamo, is one of those rare municipalities that bear the name of their patron saint. The reference is to Sant'Omobono Tucenghi, a merchant from Cremona who died during the celebration of Mass on November 13, 1197, precisely in the church dedicated to him. Every year, around November 13th, the entire community of the Valle Imagna gathers around its protector in a deeply felt patronal feast.
The heart of the festival is religious. The main celebration includes the solemn Mass and the traditional procession dedicated to the patron saint, which winds through the streets of the Mazzoleni hamlet. The procession is accompanied by the evocative notes of the Band of Sant'Omobono Terme, which has always marked the most solemn moments of the community with its music.
Among the most significant events is the awarding of the Charity Award, a symbolic recognition given to those who have distinguished themselves through actions or interventions for the benefit of the community. During the festival weekend, there are also organ concerts and musical interludes, while conviviality finds its place in lunches featuring local specialties, from goulash to tripe, dishes that tell the gastronomic tradition of the valley.
The patronal feast of Sant'Omobono combines devotion, music, and the identity of a territory. For those visiting the Valle Imagna in autumn, it is an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Bergamo region, where faith and community have walked together for over eight centuries.
