The village of Hône celebrates its patron saint with mass, traditions, a race, street food, and a torchlight procession.
The Patronal Feast of Saint George is the most cherished event in the calendar of Hône, a small municipality in the lower Aosta Valley overlooking the Dora Baltea river. Every year, on the occasion of the patron saint's day (Saint George is celebrated on April 23rd), the village organizes numerous events over several days, blending religious dimension, tradition, and popular celebration.
The heart of the feast is the solemn mass dedicated to the patron saint, but the schedule is full of events: the "la hin-a dou patron" dinner, open to all in the pavilion in the public gardens; dancing evenings with live bands; the traditional "breaking of the pots" in Piazza La Croisettaz; and the "Corrida di Hône", a non-competitive fun run followed by an aperitif. There is also street food and, to close, a torchlight procession from Plan Priod with a bonfire and disco night.
The 2026 edition is particularly significant: the feast coincides with the 80th anniversary of the institutional reconstitution of the Municipality of Hône. For the occasion, dedicated ceremonies, a film about the administrative milestones of the town, and the historical exhibition "80 Years Ago: The Municipality of Hône is Reconstituted" are planned. It's a way to intertwine the patron saint's feast with the community's collective memory.
Located at the entrance to the Champorcher Valley, Hône (Aosta Valley) maintains a strong connection with its traditions, also evidenced by other events like the Festa della Micòoula. The Feast of Saint George represents its most important identity moment, capable of bringing together residents and visitors in a festive atmosphere.
The Patronal Feast of Saint George 2026 in Hône is enriched by a special anniversary: the 80th anniversary of the institutional reconstitution of the Municipality. From April 22nd to 29th, the village experiences intense days of religious celebrations, commemorative ceremonies, sporting events, and festive evenings, with the involvement of numerous local associations (Amis de la Micòoula, Coro La Manda, Filarmonica Alpina, Alpini, and others).
The festival continues until April 29th with further events related to the anniversary. Times may be subject to change: consult the communications from the Municipality of Hône.
