The patron saint, the maitunate, and the great summer concerts
In Pietracatella, a village in the Fortore area of the province of Campobasso, the Patronal Feast of Saint Donatus the Bishop is celebrated on August 7th and is the heart of Pietracatella's summer. A festival that deeply unites the religious dimension with the popular and musical one.
On the evening of August 6th, the Giuseppe Mignogna Memorial dedicated to the maitunate, the traditional popular songs of the Pietracatella groups, is held: an evening that preserves and passes down one of the most authentic expressions of the town's culture.
On the patron saint's day, August 7th, the solemn Mass, the procession, and, in the evening, the grand musical performance in Piazza Santa Maria take place. Over the years, the festival has attracted nationally renowned artists, from the Modena City Ramblers (2024) to Bandabardò with Cisco (2025), confirming Saint Donatus as one of the most anticipated events in the Molise summer calendar, capable of uniting faith, tradition, and popular music.
The 2026 edition of the Feast of Saint Donatus in Pietracatella confirms the traditional schedule, with the vigil on August 6th dedicated to the maitunate (Giuseppe Mignogna Memorial) and the patron saint's day on August 7th, marked by solemn Mass, procession, and evening musical performance in Piazza Santa Maria.
