Codogno celebrates its patron saint with faith and civic tradition
Saint Blaise is the patron saint of Codogno, a town in the Lower Lodi area in the province of Lodi. His feast day, set for February 3rd, is one of the most cherished events of the year: a moment when the community comes together around its roots, intertwining religious devotion with civil recognition of distinguished citizens.
The day begins in the morning with the gathering of authorities at the Town Hall, on Via Vittorio Emanuele II, from which the traditional procession departs towards the parish church. Here, the solemn Mass is celebrated, presided over by the Bishop of Lodi. It is the religious heart of the feast, drawing faithful from all over Codogno and neighboring municipalities.
In the afternoon, the feast takes on its civic character with a ceremony dedicated to the city: deserving students from secondary schools are awarded, and the title of "Distinguished Codogno Citizen" is conferred upon individuals who have distinguished themselves through professional, cultural, or social merit. This is how Codogno, on its patron saint's day, recognizes and values those who contribute to the community's life.
The Feast of Saint Blaise is much more than an anniversary: it is an event that marks Codogno's civil calendar and strengthens its sense of belonging. With free admission, it brings together institutions, schools, the parish, and citizens in a day of shared celebration.
