The patroness of the sea, the procession, and the fireworks over the gulf
The Patronal Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the main religious event in Diano Marina, on the Riviera dei Fiori in the province of Imperia. The devotion is linked to the sea and fishermen: offshore, a few meters deep, lies a statue of the Madonna Stella Maris, created by Diano Marina artist Paolo Scati, protector of Diano Marina and seafarers.
The most evocative moment of the feast is the Stella Maris mass celebrated on the pier of the tourist port, followed by the sea procession with a floral tribute to the submerged statue, organized with the collaboration of the Diano Sub Association. The solemn patronal procession then continues in town, in Piazza Martiri della Liberta.
The patronal festivities unfold around the religious celebrations, with events, music, and the traditional fireworks display over the sea that illuminates the gulf. The feast involves the entire community and marks one of the culminating moments of the Diano summer.
The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel tells the seafaring soul of Diano Marina: a town that, while living off beach tourism, maintains a strong connection with the sea and its religious traditions. For visitors, it is an opportunity to discover an authentic and profound dimension of the Ligurian Riviera di Ponente.
For 2026, the Patronal Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Diano Marina is concentrated between July 16th and 19th. On Thursday, July 16th, starting at 9 PM, the Stella Maris holy mass will be celebrated on the pier of the tourist port, followed by the sea procession with a floral tribute to the submerged statue of the Madonna, protector of the town and fishermen.
The festivities culminate on Sunday, July 19th, at 8:30 PM, with the solemn patronal procession in Piazza Martiri della Liberta. Around the religious celebrations, events, music, and the traditional fireworks display over the sea will take place.
Diano Marina is accessible from the Imperia Est exit of the A10 motorway and from the train station on the Genoa-Ventimiglia line. The celebrations take place between the port, the town center, and Piazza Martiri della Liberta.
Free admission to events. For the sea procession, it is advisable to follow the Parish's instructions.
