At the end of April, San Giorgio Bigarello, in the province of Mantua, celebrates its patron saint with the Festa del Patrono di San Giorgio, also known as Festa della Stradela. Four days of events that intertwine culture, music, and popular tradition, animating the town's locations — from the Frida Kahlo Cultural Center to the municipal auditorium, from the squares to the country farmsteads.
Culture and music
The festival opens with culture: the inauguration of the photographic exhibition L'Anima dei Fiori (The Soul of Flowers) at the Frida Kahlo Cultural Center, followed by the Grand Concert «America in Swing», a big band evening with jazz and swing music from the thirties to the sixties, at the municipal auditorium. An opening that immediately sets the tone for a festival attentive to the quality of its offerings.
Civic honors and municipal beer
The second day combines the institutional and the convivial: the civic honors ceremony, which rewards citizens and local entities, and the presentation of the municipal craft beer, by local brewery Mister B, with a DJ set at the Frida Kahlo Cultural Center. A mix that tells of a community capable of celebrating and having fun together.
Farmsteads, districts, and gastronomy
The weekend brings the festival outdoors and among the people. The cycling tour of the farmsteads, organized by Polisportiva SanGiorgio90, starts from Piazza della Repubblica in Mottella to cross the country farmsteads; there is also a moment of remembrance at the Gazzo monument. Sunday is dedicated to food stalls and the Games without Frontiers between the districts, lighthearted challenges that rekindle the local pride in a cheerful way. The Festa della Stradela is thus a portrait of a town in the Mantua region that combines culture, tradition, and the desire to be together.
Festa della Stradela — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Festa del Patrono di San Giorgio, the Festa della Stradela, will liven up San Giorgio Bigarello from April 23 to 26. Four days of culture, music, and tradition, organized by the municipal administration.
It starts on Thursday with the photographic exhibition and the big band concert; Friday features civic honors and the municipal beer; the weekend is dedicated to the cycling tour of the farmsteads, food stalls, and Games without Frontiers between the districts.
