The lecture-concert series by Officina Filarmonica in the heart of Rome
Passione Classica โ Festival of Music, Culture and Community is a concert series promoted in Rome by the Officina Filarmonica association, an amateur symphony orchestra registered as a Third Sector entity. Born from the idea that classical music can be a tool for collective growth, the event transforms the traditional concert into a moment of discovery: it is not just about listening, but about understanding and participation.
The heart of the festival is the lecture-concert, a format that alternates live performance with musical education. Before and during each piece, the musicians recount the history of the works, explain their structure, and engage in dialogue with the audience, who transition from mere spectators to active participants. Each event lasts about an hour and is designed to introduce classical music even to those who do not attend concerts regularly.
The first events are held in the evocative Chiostro di Santa Maria in Via, in the historic center of the Capital, just a few steps from the Trevi Fountain. The final concert moves to the Auditorium della Banda dell'Esercito Italiano "Amleto Lacerenza", an ideal setting for the dialogue between the soloists and the full orchestra.
The program focuses on the great masters of the Viennese Classical period. It explores the wind repertoire, Mozart's Flute Concerto No. 1 in G major K 313, and Haydn's famous Trumpet Concertoโauthentic cornerstones of 18th-century solo literatureโperformed by young soloists under the direction of Maestro Rocco Sbardella.
More than just a concert season, Passione Classica is a cultural project rooted in the fabric of the Municipality of Rome and the Lazio region. It highlights the orchestra's emerging talents, engages the neighborhood, and promotes music as a language of community and sharing, in line with the social mission of Officina Filarmonica.
Four Sunday appointments, starting at 5:00 PM, make up the 2026 edition of the series. The first three are held in the Chiostro di Santa Maria in Via, while the final concert takes place at the Auditorium della Banda dell'Esercito Italiano. The direction is entrusted to Maestro Rocco Sbardella, with the participation of soloists from the Officina Filarmonica orchestra.
