ReWriters fest: rewriting the imagination in Rome

The ReWriters fest is the first and only European festival entirely dedicated to social sustainability. Born from the cultural movement of the same name founded by writer and journalist Eugenia Romanelli, it takes place every autumn in the Municipality of Rome, the capital of the Lazio region, and has chosen the city's finest drawing room as its home: the Galleria Alberto Sordi and Piazza Colonna, just a few steps from Palazzo Chigi and Montecitorio.

A festival to change the imagination

Its stated goal is to "rewrite the contemporary imagination": overcoming stereotypes and prejudices through culture. During the event, the festival brings together over one hundred writers, journalists, artists, activists, teachers, and entertainment figures in a packed program of debates, interviews, readings, exhibitions, book presentations, live music, and photography. All under the banner of the #BeTheChange campaign, inspired by the principles of the UN 2030 Agenda.

The themes of social sustainability

The festival addresses the major ethical issues of the present, giving a voice to those working for concrete change. Recurring topics include:

• gender equality and the gender pay gap;
• combating male violence against women;
• civil rights and the LGBTQIA+ community;
• mental health, disability, and body positivity;
• climate crisis, environment, and animal welfare;
• intergenerational justice and social inclusion.

Godmothers, ambassadors, and awards

Each edition is accompanied by a godmother and ambassadors from the worlds of culture and entertainment, and presents awards such as the ReWriters Prize and the ReWorld Prize for social sustainability. Past editions have featured names like Violante Placido, Chiara Francini, Margherita Buy, Melania Mazzucco, Viola Ardone, Giobbe Covatta, and Licia Colò.

An event open to everyone

Consistent with its mission, the ReWriters fest is a plastic-free festival with free admission upon reservation, with meetings also streamed on the ReWriters Facebook and YouTube channels. An event that brings a different way of understanding culture to the historic center of Rome, in the Lazio region: participatory, free, and oriented towards social change.
