The Palio Remiero delle Contrade of Cavallino-Treporti, in the province of Venice, is one of the most cherished events on the coastline. The great regatta sees the twelve historic districts of the area — Cavallino, Treporti, Ca' Vio, Ca' Savio, Faro Piave Vecchia, Ca' di Valle, Ca' Ballarin, Ca' Pasquali, Punta Sabbioni, Saccagnana, Lio Piccolo — compete aboard caorline, the traditional boats of Venetian rowing.
Roots in the history of the coastline
The event is rooted in the history of Cavallino-Treporti, recalling the competition among the market gardeners of Sant'Erasmo, Vignole, and Cavallino, who every morning reached the Rialto market by boat to sell their produce and secure the best spots. The spirit of the palio is born from this tradition of hard work and rivalry.
The regatta in front of Piazza del Cavallino
The regatta takes place in the waters in front of Piazza del Cavallino, with a kilometre-long pursuit race with direct elimination. At the end, the decorated palio banner is awarded to the winning district, amidst the cheers of the coastal communities.
Community celebration
More than just a sporting competition, the Palio Remiero is a celebration of identity and belonging that intertwines Venetian rowing, tradition, and social life, involving the entire population of Cavallino-Treporti.
Palio Remiero delle Contrade — edition 2026
The 13th Palio Remiero delle Contrade of Cavallino-Treporti takes place on June 27 and 28, 2026, reviving the spectacular regatta of the districts. The twelve caorline, one for each of the historic districts of the coastline, compete in a pursuit race of about one kilometre with direct elimination, in the waters in front of Piazza del Cavallino.
The competition recalls the historic challenge between the market gardeners of Sant'Erasmo, Vignole, and Cavallino who reached the Rialto market by boat. At the end, the decorated palio banner is awarded to the winning district, in a setting of popular celebration.

How to get there
Cavallino-Treporti is reachable by car via the SP42 coastal road, by ferry from Venice and Punta Sabbioni, and by bus from Jesolo. The regatta takes place in front of Piazza del Cavallino.

The event is free and can be watched from the banks and the square.

The palio is held at the end of June; the main regatta on the caorline boats takes place in the late afternoon.
