In Polaveno, a municipality in the Valle Trompia in the province of Brescia, the Palio dell'Oca is the most cherished summer festival. The protagonists are the five contrade (districts) of the town — La Fontana, Zoadello, La Valle, Castello, and La Sorgente — who compete in games and tournaments in an atmosphere of healthy competition and local pride.
A week of games and celebration
During the weekdays, the contrade face each other in tournaments and challenges that award points for the standings. Alongside the competition, the festival offers flavours, music, and moments of conviviality that animate the town's streets and involve all ages.
The final race and the patrons
The climax is the final goose race, which takes place on the concluding Sunday, after the Mass and processions with the statues of the saints. The festival indeed celebrates the patrons Sant'Anna and San Nicola, uniting the religious dimension with the popular and sporting aspects. Now in its 36th edition, the Palio dell'Oca renews the Triumplina community's bond with its traditions every year.
Palio dell'Oca — edition 2026
The 2026 edition, the thirty-sixth, enlivens Polaveno from July 20 to 27. The five contrade of the town — La Fontana, Zoadello, La Valle, Castello, and La Sorgente — compete in games and tournaments during the weekdays, alongside flavours, music, and convivial moments. On Sunday, July 27, after the Mass and processions with the statues of the patron saints, the traditional final goose race begins at 9:30 PM.
