About Beer Festival

In the heart of Palestrina's historic center, at Piazza Regina Margherita, the Beer Festival brings together local pubs and venues every summer for a selection of craft beers paired with traditional local dishes, given a creative twist. Born from the initiative of the Comitato Fuori Porta, the event is designed for young people and beer enthusiasts, as well as families, featuring food stalls, live music, and play areas for children. It is one of the most anticipated events of the Palestrina Summer.

A neighborhood festival turned city highlight

The Palestrina Beer Festival is one of the most popular summer events in the town of Palestrina, located in the Province of Rome, in the heart of the Lazio region. Started a few years ago by residents and local businesses united under the Comitato Fuori Porta, it has grown into a staple of the Palestrina Summer calendar, a series of events that the Municipality of Palestrina hosts from June to September, featuring concerts, exhibitions, open-air cinema, food festivals, and historical re-enactments.

The formula remains true to its origins: no grand stages or commercial spectacles, but a neighborhood square festival where the local community opens its doors to show its most authentic side. The result is a slow-paced, convivial event where you can drink well, eat even better, and stay out late into the night.

Craft beer at the heart of the event

The common thread is craft beer. Local pubs and venues curate the selection: blondes, ambers, and darks that change from year to year, often showcasing labels from small Lazio breweries alongside more well-known names. The idea is not a massive beer fest with thousands of liters, but a distributed tasting experience with stalls close together, where you can chat with the brewers about what you are drinking.

  • Selection of craft beers offered by local pubs
  • Pairings with creative takes on traditional local cuisine
  • Food stalls along the square and adjacent streets
  • Evening service with stalls opening in the late afternoon

Local cuisine in street-food style

Alongside the beer mugs, the culinary offerings draw heavily from the traditions of the Prenestini Mountains. This isn't just generic street food; local dishes are served in portable portions designed to accompany the tastings. After all, Palestrina is a city of food festivalsโ€”from the Gnocchetto a co' de Soreca Festival to the Giglietto Festival, the city's signature pastryโ€”and the Beer Festival fits perfectly into this series of gastronomic events that define the Palestrina summer.

Music, families, and atmosphere

The evenings are accompanied by live music, with local bands and groups taking turns in the square. Past editions have featured pop music acts and Roman folk singers, creating a repertoire that perfectly matches the festival's spirit. There is also a focus on the little ones: inflatables and free play areas make the event family-friendly, drawing crowds to the square in the early evening.

Piazza Regina Margherita, the living room of Palestrina

The setting is Piazza Regina Margherita, the central hub of Palestrina's urban fabric, just a stone's throw from the famous Sanctuary of Fortuna Primigenia and the National Archaeological Museum of Palestrina, which houses the celebrated Nile Mosaic. Visitors to the festival have one of the most important archaeological complexes in Lazio right at their fingertips: visiting the sanctuary in the late afternoon and spending the evening in the square is a perfect combination.

When to go

The event is traditionally held between late June and early July, spanning three consecutive nights. The dates change from year to year within the Palestrina Summer calendar: it is always advisable to check the program published by the Municipality of Palestrina before traveling. Entry to the square is free; you only pay for what you consume at the stalls.
