About Over – Emerging Theatre Emergencies

Over – Emerging Theatre Emergencies is the national showcase dedicated by Teatro Argot Studio in Rome to the new generations of the contemporary scene. For three days, in the heart of Trastevere, selected under-35 companies present their shows to the public and a jury of industry professionals. A project by Argot Produzioni, in partnership with theatres in Naples, Turin, Milan, and Palermo, offering emerging artists visibility, dialogue, and concrete opportunities for professional growth.

A springboard for emerging theatre

Over – Emerging Theatre Emergencies is a national project conceived and curated by Argot Produzioni, the organisation that has been the driving force behind the Teatro Argot Studio in Rome for over forty years—a historic space for scenic research in the Trastevere district. Every spring, the festival transforms the Via Natale del Grande venue into a showcase dedicated to under-35 companies, offering new generations of the contemporary scene a real stage and an attentive audience.

How it works

The festival stems from an open national call: from numerous applications, a committee selects a small group of companies to perform their work over three days. The shows are evaluated by a jury of professionals, artistic directors, and critics, chaired by Claudia Cannella, editor of Hystrio magazine. The winning company receives a prize and the opportunity to be included in the following year's programme, in a support path that goes far beyond a simple festival.

A network for growth

The strength of Over lies in the network of partners that supports young artists beyond the borders of Rome. The project collaborates with production entities from across the peninsula, such as NEST – Napoli Est Teatro, Cubo Teatro in Turin, PimOff in Milan, and the Teatro Libero di Palermo, alongside Dominio Pubblico, Hystrio, the Torino Fringe Festival, and the national 34punto9 network, which brings together under-35 production bodies engaged in contemporary theatre research.

Beyond the shows

Alongside the evening programme, Over dedicates space to professional debate with meetings and round tables on the craft of producing theatre today. It is an opportunity for exchange between artists, professionals, and the public, making the festival not just a showcase but a true laboratory of ideas on the future of live performance.

In Rome, in the heart of Trastevere

Hosted in one of the most iconic venues in the Lazio Region, Teatro Argot Studio, Over confirms the vocation of the Municipality of Rome as a reference point for new Italian dramaturgy. For enthusiasts and the curious, it is the ideal occasion to discover, a few years in advance, the names that will shape tomorrow's theatre scene.

Over – Emerging Theatre Emergencies — edition 2026

The 7th edition of Over – Emerging Theatre Emergencies took place from May 8th to 10th, 2026, at Teatro Argot Studio in Rome. Five under-35 companies selected via a national call presented their shows to the public and the jury, in a weekend dedicated to the new contemporary scene, enriched by a professional meeting at WeGil.

The seventh edition confirmed the festival's formula: three days of performances by emerging companies, a jury chaired by Claudia Cannella (Hystrio), and the support of the national network of partners. Alongside the competing works, Sunday hosted the Produrre Presente (Producing the Present) meeting, organised by the 34punto9 network at the WeGil in Largo Ascianghi. The programme ranged from documentary theatre to dramaturgy on social issues, from the precariousness of delivery riders to the memory of endangered languages.
