Young Optimist sailors challenge Lake Garda
The Ottimist d'Oro is the regatta that the Fraglia Vela Desenzano (province of Brescia) dedicates to young sailors of the Optimist class, the dinghy with which children and young people worldwide take their first steps in competitive sailing.
In the gulf of Desenzano del Garda, the young crews will compete in a day entirely dedicated to them. The Optimist, small and maneuverable, is the quintessential training boat: a regatta like the Ottimist d'Oro allows youngsters to compete on the water, test what they have learned, and experience the thrill of competition in a safe and educational environment.
Founded in 1958, Fraglia Vela Desenzano is one of the historic clubs on the lake and pays great attention to youth activities. The Ottimist d'Oro is one of the events that demonstrate this commitment, helping to train tomorrow's sailors on the waters of Garda.
In 2026, the Ottimist d'Oro is scheduled for September 20. The regatta, reserved for young Optimist class helmsmen, takes place in a single day in the gulf of Desenzano del Garda, organized by Fraglia Vela Desenzano. An event dedicated to youth sailing that brings future champions onto the lake's waters.
