The night-time snow show by the Solda ski instructors, at the foot of the Ortler
The Ortler Snow Night is one of the most evocative winter events in Solda (known as Sulden in German), a renowned ski resort in the municipality of Stelvio (Stilfs), in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of South Tyrol. Every year, on a late February evening, the Cevedale slope at the base of the Ortler massif transforms into a stage for a show that blends sport, light, and mountain magic.
The stars of the evening are the instructors from the Solda Ski School, who descend the illuminated slope in choreographed formations, creating a night-time exhibition on the snow that leaves the audience gathered at the base station of the ski lifts breathless. The instructors' descent, accompanied by light displays along the track, is the highlight of an event created to celebrate the skiing tradition of one of South Tyrol's historic schools and the spectacular beauty of the peaks surrounding the village.
The Ortler Snow Night is promoted by the Solda Ski School together with the Solda Cable Cars (Seilbahnen Sulden) and the Ortler Group Tourism Region (Ferienregion Ortler), which coordinates visitor hospitality. The evening is part of the winter event calendar that brings Solda to life during the peak ski season, when the village and the Ortler Skiarena resort welcome ski enthusiasts and families from across the Alps.
Situated at an altitude of approximately 1,900 meters in the upper Val Venosta, Solda is one of the highest alpine destinations in South Tyrol, dominated by the face of the Ortler (3,905 m), the highest peak in the region. The high-altitude setting, with the crisp air of winter nights, makes the Ortler Snow Night a unique experience: a show designed for the public crowding the village center and the lift area, in an atmosphere made magical by the snow and lights.
The 2026 edition took place on Wednesday, February 25 in Solda (Municipality of Stelvio), with the show scheduled from 9:15 PM to approximately 10:30 PM at the base station of the ski lifts, on the Cevedale slope.
As per tradition, the instructors of the Solda Ski School performed their night-time exhibition on the snow, featuring choreographed descents and light displays along the illuminated track. The event, organized in collaboration with the Solda Cable Cars and the Ortler Group Tourism Region, required registration for participants.
