About Ortidea

Ortidea is the market exhibition dedicated to orchids and rare plants that transforms the Botanical Garden of Rome, in the heart of Trastevere, into a wonderland every spring. Prestigious Italian and international nurseries, floral installations in the Exhibition Greenhouse, workshops, seminars, and guided tours of the botanical collections bring two days of beauty and biodiversity to life, with an atmosphere that looks to the Orient in 2026. An unmissable weekend for enthusiasts, families, and curious visitors alike.

Ortidea, the realm of orchids in the heart of Rome

Ortidea is the market exhibition dedicated to orchids and rare plants that brings the Botanical Garden of Rome, in the Trastevere district, to life every year at the end of May. Conceived by Francesca Romana Maroni and organized by Sens Eventi, the event transforms the twelve hectares of the capital's historic garden for a weekend into a journey of colors, scents, and biodiversity, amidst tropical greenhouses, flowerbeds, and botanical collections of rare beauty.

A floral market featuring Italian and international nurseries

The commercial heart of the event is the market exhibition, which brings together prestigious Italian and international nurseries specializing in orchids, carnivorous plants, succulents, and botanical species that are hard to find elsewhere. Alongside the plants, a small sustainable market offers floral crafts, botanical jewelry, jams, natural fiber fabrics, and a food area with gastronomic offerings for every taste. It is the ideal opportunity for collectors and beginners to take home a rare plant and receive advice directly from the growers.

The Exhibition Greenhouse and floral installations

The Exhibition Greenhouse is the scenic centerpiece of Ortidea: here, floral installations curated by important industry players come to life, including the Botanical Garden of Rome, the Italian Orchidology Association (A.I.O.), the Botanical Garden of Naples, and the Lazio Orchid Association (A.L.O.). The compositions are evaluated by a jury of experts on the first day, in a true competition that rewards creativity and botanical quality.

Workshops, seminars, and family activities

The Ortidea program is packed with free events included in the ticket price: practical workshops on repotting and cultivation, informative seminars, guided tours of the collections and tropical greenhouses, as well as numerous activities for children. There is no shortage of sensory experiences and artistic workshops, making the event suitable for both expert enthusiasts and families looking for a day in the open air.

Rome, the Botanical Garden, and the Province

Located at the foot of the Janiculum Hill, the Botanical Garden of Rome is one of the most important scientific gardens in Italy, managed by the Sapienza University of Rome. Ortidea is part of the spring calendar of the Municipality of Rome Capital, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital (Lazio), and represents one of the most anticipated botanical events in the region. The setting of Trastevere, a stone's throw from the Tiber and the historic center, adds charm to an event that combines nature, culture, and leisure.

Ortidea — edition 2026

The sixth edition of Ortidea took place on Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24, 2026, at the Botanical Garden of Rome, with an atmosphere inspired by the Orient. Two days of rare orchids, floral installations, workshops, seminars, and guided tours, enriched by a sustainable market and a gastronomic area.

Ortidea 2026: rare orchids and Oriental atmospheres

The sixth edition of Ortidea was held on May 23 and 24, 2026, at the Botanical Garden of Rome, with a theme dedicated to Oriental atmospheres. The Exhibition Greenhouse hosted floral installations curated by the Botanical Garden of Rome, the Italian Orchidology Association, the Botanical Garden of Naples, and the Lazio Orchid Association, which were evaluated by a jury on Saturday. Numerous Italian and international nurseries enlivened the market exhibition, accompanied by a sustainable market and a food area.
