About Organ Festival

Every spring, the Organ Festival brings grand organ music to the historic churches of the Alto Casertano, with Alvignano serving as a permanent fixture on the tour. At the Sanctuary of the Madonna Addolorata, in the province of Caserta, established organists and rising young talents perform in free-entry concerts that showcase the region's ancient pipe organs. It is a journey through spirituality, heritage, and sacred repertoire—ranging from the Baroque to the 19th century—promoted by the Anna Jervolino Association in Campania.

The Organ Festival and its Alvignano stop

The Organ Festival is a travelling concert series that visits churches and sanctuaries across the Alto Casertano region in Campania every year. The event reaches several towns in the province of Caserta—including Alvignano, Castel Campagnano, Sepicciano di Piedimonte Matese, Aversa, and Pietramelara—offering a cycle of free concerts that celebrate the rich sound of pipe organs and the beauty of the sacred buildings that house them. The festival is promoted by the Anna Jervolino Association in collaboration with the Friends of the Organ Association, with the patronage of local administrations and the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Campania Region.

Alvignano, the heart of the journey

In the Municipality of Alvignano, a village in the Caserta hinterland, the festival has a regular, recurring stop at the Sanctuary of the Madonna Addolorata. Each edition hosts at least two evening performances here, making the Alvignano sanctuary one of the festival's iconic venues. The choice of this space is no coincidence: the church's acoustics and the presence of the pipe organ create an intimate dialogue between architecture, spirituality, and music, in perfect harmony with the festival's spirit.

A sacred and classical repertoire

The program spans from the Baroque repertoire to 19th-century compositions, with forays into sacred music and the great European organ literature. On stage—or rather, at the console—are renowned performers: conservatory professors, established concert artists, and young winners of international competitions. The declared goal of the Anna Jervolino Association is twofold: to give visibility to emerging talents and to promote the ancient organs of the territory, which are often little known to the general public.

An experience open to all

All concerts are free of charge and are held in the evening, when the twilight in the churches amplifies the evocative power of the music. The Organ Festival thus represents a precious opportunity to discover the historical and artistic heritage of the Alto Casertano villages, combining cultural tourism, spirituality, and high-level music in a journey that renews itself every year between Alvignano and the neighboring towns in the province of Caserta.

Organ Festival — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Organ Festival featured ten concerts from May 2 to August 30, across Alvignano, Castel Campagnano, Sepicciano di Piedimonte Matese, Aversa, and Pietramelara. In Alvignano, at the Sanctuary of the Madonna Addolorata, two free evening concerts were held, dedicated to exploring the many expressions of the organ through a dialogue between instruments, architecture, and the local territory.

The 2026 Organ Festival offered ten free concerts from May 2 to August 30, divided into two parts: the first in the spring across Alvignano, Sepicciano di Piedimonte Matese, Aversa, and Castel Campagnano; the second in August in Pietramelara, at the Church of S. Rocco, dedicated to the memory of Father Roberto Mitrano. The festival, promoted by the Anna Jervolino Association, confirmed its mission to promote historic organs and churches in the Alto Casertano, in the province of Caserta.

In Alvignano, the Sanctuary of the Madonna Addolorata hosted two of the ten appointments, entrusted to highly regarded organists.
