The Greek culture festival in Rome, featuring Hellenic street food, live music, and traditional dance
OPA! Greek Fest is the event that brings all the warmth and color of Greek culture to Rome. Hosted at the Hacienda, located at Via dei Cluniacensi 68 in the Portonaccio district, the festival transforms this Roman venue into an authentic corner of Greece for an entire day. Admission is free with voluntary contributions, maintaining the open, inclusive, and convivial spirit that has become the event's hallmark.
The beating heart of the festival is Hellenic gastronomy. Throughout the day, the food area offers traditional specialties, street food, and classic Greek dishes prepared on the spot: from the essential pita and souvlaki to cheeses and Mediterranean desserts. It is a journey through Aegean flavors that welcomes visitors from opening until evening, in a festive atmosphere that encourages sharing at the table.
The soundtrack of OPA! Greek Fest is live music from the Greek islands and the Eastern Mediterranean. Concerts on stage accompany the audience's spontaneous dancing, turning the event into a true open-air party. Dance is a major highlight: specialized schools host workshops and open lessons for all ages, guiding participants through the engaging rhythms of the sirtaki and various Hellenic folk dances. Student showcases also feature prominently, celebrating tradition and the energy of group dancing.
OPA! Greek Fest is designed as an event for all ages. Alongside the music and food, there are cultural activities, workshops for children, and opportunities to discover the Greek language and traditions. The relaxed and participatory atmosphere makes this festival one of the most anticipated occasions for Hellenic culture enthusiasts and Roman families looking for a unique day out.
Born as a small celebration for the community and lovers of Greece, the event has grown edition after edition to become a landmark in the cultural landscape of Rome and the Lazio region. The success of the format—blending conviviality, great food, and group dancing—has led to multiple events throughout the year, confirming OPA! Greek Fest as one of the most beloved ethnic festivals in the Capital.
The eighth edition of OPA! Greek Fest was held on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at the Hacienda in Rome, via dei Cluniacensi 68, from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with free entry and voluntary contributions. A day entirely dedicated to Greek culture, featuring Mediterranean flavors, music, and group dances.
From 12:00 PM, food stands opened with catering provided by the Greek restaurant Ilios, offering traditional specialties and freshly prepared street food. From 1:30 PM to 2:15 PM, open workshops and lessons in Greek dance were coordinated by the Parádosi school, founded by Rita De Vito and Giulia Acciaroli. At 3:30 PM, the first set by the duo Kýmata ("Waves")—a project born in Athens from the meeting of violinist/vocalist Violette Boulanger and laouto player Carmelo Siciliano—took place, with a second set from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. At 5:00 PM, in the indoor hall, the dance showcase featured performances by students from the Parádosi school.
