A new series for the new generation

Fortuna FuturClassica debuts in 2026 as the chamber music series of the IUC — Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti, the historic concert society that has been bringing world-class music to Sapienza University of Rome for over eighty years. The title pays tribute to the Fortuna family, founders of the IUC, and continues their original mission: providing a stage for musicians at the beginning of their journey, when their talent is already mature but their career is still waiting to be written.

The selection criteria are clear: performers under 35, winners and finalists of international competitions, chosen for their artistic quality rather than just their awards. The IUC aims to promote diversity, offering the stage not only to first-prize winners but also to those who have distinguished themselves in prestigious competitions. Those who impress may be invited back for official seasons, effectively making the series a bridge between the competition circuit and professional concert life.

Two venues in the heart of the University City

The five events are split between two spaces on the San Lorenzo campus, in the City of Rome, Lazio. The Aula Magna of the Rectorate is the historic home of IUC concerts, a monumental setting with exceptional acoustics; the Nuovo Teatro Ateneo is the recently renovated cultural space of Sapienza, more intimate and perfectly suited for the close dialogue typical of chamber music.

A fundamental choice defines the entire series: the concerts are strictly acoustic, without amplification, in full respect of the chamber music tradition. This is a poetic statement as much as a technical choice, explaining why the audience in both venues remains intentionally limited.

The repertoire

The musical journey is vast, spanning three centuries. It ranges from Capriccio BWV 992 and the Partitas by Bach to the romanticism of Grieg, Schumann, Wieniawski, and Mendelssohn, through to the 20th century with Stravinsky and Schulhoff, and contemporary music with a piece by Susani. Viennese classicism closes the series with Mozart and Beethoven performed by the Quartetto Rilke.

A festival that steps out of the classroom

All concerts are live-streamed on the IUC's Twitch and YouTube channels, featuring the participation of content creators such as Martino Ruggero Dondi, Giulia Mir, and Marco Pangallo. This is a deliberate way to bring classical music closer to a younger audience, consistent with the university nature of the series and the choice of a very accessible pricing policy.

Why attend

Fortuna FuturClassica is not a large outdoor summer festival: it is a listening series in authentic concert halls, with tickets starting at just five euros. For those visiting Rome between spring and early autumn, it represents a rare opportunity to hear, at a symbolic price, performers who will likely be featured in major European concert seasons in the coming years. The university district of San Lorenzo, with its bars and bookstores, completes the evening.
