About Oleggio Agricultural Fair

Every May 1st, the historic center of Oleggio, in the Province of Novara, transforms into the region's largest agricultural festival. Vintage and modern farm machinery, animal exhibits, a farmers' market, local food tastings, historical re-enactments, and the unmissable Greasy Pole competition bring a day of tradition and fun for the whole family to life. In 2026, the event celebrates 120 years of history and earns the title of National Agricultural Fair.

A 120-year tradition in Oleggio

The May 1st Agricultural Fair is the most anticipated event of the year in Oleggio, a town in the Province of Novara, in the heart of Piedmont. Every May 1st, the streets and squares of the historic center fill with hundreds of stalls, exhibitors, animals, and the aromas of local products: it is a grand agricultural festival that blends tradition and innovation, drawing thousands of visitors from across the province and neighboring regions.

Founded over a century ago to celebrate the local farming and livestock community, the Fair has successfully renewed itself while keeping its popular spirit intact. In 2026, it reaches a historic milestone: 120 years since its first edition and, for the first time, the prestigious recognition of National Agricultural Fair awarded by the Piedmont Region.

What to see at the Fair

The event is a comprehensive showcase of the agricultural world. Along the exhibition route, you will find:

  • Farm machinery, both vintage and modern, from restored old tractors to the latest field technologies;
  • Animal exhibits โ€” cattle, horses, birds, and farmyard animals, as well as welcome exotic guests like alpacas and camels from previous years;
  • Farmers' market featuring the region's top agri-food products and local specialties to taste and buy;
  • Crafts and traditional trades, with live demonstrations of ancient skills;
  • Historical re-enactments, sculptures, bonsai displays, and themed exhibitions.

Fun for all ages

The folkloric heart of the day is the famous Greasy Pole, a traditional game that even became famous on television on the Show dei Record: teams compete to climb to the top of the pole. For the little ones, there are inflatables, antique games, workshops, and dedicated activities, while food stands managed by local associations offer the chance to taste local specialties.

The Oleggio Agricultural Fair is much more than a market: it is a day of celebration that tells the story of the rural identity of the Novara area and celebrates the deep bond between the community and its land. Admission is completely free.
