Cilento street food, folk music, and DJ sets in Piazza Marconi, Marina di Casal Velino
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Notti Mediterranee is the event that brings Piazza Marconi to life in Marina di Casal Velino, a coastal district of the municipality of Casal Velino, in the province of Salerno, at the heart of the Cilento region and Campania. Promoted by the Pro Loco Marina di Casal Velino with the patronage of the municipality and the support of Sodalis - CSV Salerno, it takes place in the evenings immediately following Christmas, transforming the square into a vibrant meeting space filled with flavor, music, and tradition.
The underlying concept is simple yet highly effective: to bring people back to the square when the Cilento coast is quiet, restoring evening life to the marina during the winter months. The result is a popular festival where the younger generation dances until late at night, while families find their own space in the early evening hours.
The entire event is concentrated in Piazza Marconi, just a few steps from the Marina di Casal Velino seafront. It is the most recognizable public space in the seaside village, the spot where tourists and residents gather in the summer. Set up with stalls, lights, and a stage, it becomes a sort of 'theatre-square' in winter, where people eat, listen to music, and dance within the same perimeter.
The gastronomic aspect is one of the main reasons the square fills up. The stalls offer Cilento street food, featuring dishes that belong to the local identity, from seafood cuisine to traditional Christmas sweets. It is the Cilento of the Mediterranean diet presented in an informal, 'on-the-go' style, with portions to be enjoyed standing while bands perform on stage.
The musical program is the backbone of Notti Mediterranee and follows the same rhythm every night: a show or storytelling in the early evening, a folk music concert around 10 PM, and a DJ set at midnight. The 2025 edition featured RittAntico, a Cilento folk music group; Cunti & Canti with their blend of storytelling and melody; Taranta Nobes with pizzica and traditional sounds revisited in a contemporary key; and the band Sette Bocche, while Luca Guรฌ and Locomotiv took turns at the consoles.
Notti Mediterranee is not just a nighttime party. The opening is traditionally dedicated to the little ones, with the arrival of Santa Claus from his 'House' in Acquavella, and the program also includes family-friendly theatrical productions, such as the musical dedicated to the Grinch by the Leo Dancing Club association. It is a deliberate choice: to involve residents, visitors, and families in the same square, with different offerings depending on the time of day.
The event began in 2024 as Notte Mediterranea, a single evening of street food and music in Piazza Marconi on December 27th. The success of that first trial convinced the Pro Loco to expand the format: in 2025, the festival became plural, Notti Mediterranee, spanning three consecutive evenings from December 26th to 28th. This rapid growth speaks volumes about the desire for winter events on a coast with strong seasonality.
Those who only know Casal Velino in summer, with its Blue Flags and crowded beaches, will find another dimension here: the silent Cilento of December, the hillside villages behind the coast, and the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park within easy driving distance. Notti Mediterranee is part of a winter calendar that includes other traditional events in the municipality, making it an excellent reason to plan a few days of visiting between Christmas and New Year's, when accommodation prices are far from those of August.
The 2026 edition of Notti Mediterranee has not yet been officially announced. The event has so far been held in the evenings following Christmas in Piazza Marconi, in Marina di Casal Velino, and the 2026 calendar is expected to fall within the same late-December window, but no dates have been confirmed yet.
No program details are currently available: artists, schedules, and the composition of street food stalls will be announced by the Pro Loco Marina di Casal Velino in the weeks leading up to the event, as was the case for the 2025 edition. Those planning a visit to Cilento between Christmas and New Year's can follow the Pro Loco's social media channels, where the poster and full program are published.
In the meantime, the 2025 edition record provides a precise idea of the format: three consecutive evenings, folk music and pizzica, midnight DJ sets, children's shows at the start, and Cilento street food throughout the square.
