The August 15th dawn concert on the panoramic terrace of Posillipo, as the Gulf of Naples lights up
Note Incantate is arguably the most poetic way to begin August 15th in Naples. While the city remains silent and the beaches are deserted, hundreds of people make their way—on foot or by shuttle—to the panoramic terrace of Sant'Antonio in Posillipo to witness a concert that begins in the dark and ends in full daylight. The stage is a natural belvedere overlooking the entire Gulf: Castel dell'Ovo, the Lungomare Caracciolo, Mount Vesuvius slowly emerging from the sky, and the islands reappearing from the mist. The music accompanies the sunrise, creating a spectacle that no theater could ever replicate.
The guiding theme of the festival is clear: the great Neapolitan and Mediterranean musical heritage. This is not just any pop concert, but a repertoire that spans classic Neapolitan songs, contemporary interpretations, and Mediterranean sounds, presented in an intimate, acoustic format perfectly suited to the time and place. The solo voice, supported by minimal instrumentation, engages with the sound of the sea and the morning breeze; it is this raw, stripped-back quality that makes this event unlike any other summer gathering in the city.
The concert is not an isolated event: it is part of "Vedi Napoli d'estate e poi Torni", the program conceived, supported, and promoted by the Naples City Council's Department of Tourism and Productive Activities, which reaches its fifth edition in 2026 and runs from July 2nd to October 4th. Alongside "Note Incantate," the festival offers free galeon tours of the Gulf with expert guide Amedeo Colella and "City of Naples Mystery Tours" dedicated to genre literature. All initiatives are free with mandatory reservation: a deliberate choice by the municipal administration to give back to Neapolitans and visitors alike places that usually remain on the fringes of tourist circuits.
The Sant'Antonio belvedere in Posillipo, located next to the 18th-century church that gives it its name, is one of Naples' most beloved viewpoints and one of the few places where you can take in the entire arc of the Gulf in a single glance. You can reach it via the Mergellina funicular (Sant'Antonio stop) or on foot from Piazza Sannazzaro by climbing the famous Rampe di Sant'Antonio, the "thirteen descents" that connect Mergellina to Posillipo. For the dawn concert, the City Council provides a dedicated shuttle service, as regular public transport is not yet active at that hour.
Born as a trial in 2024, the Ferragosto dawn concert was such a success that it has become a permanent fixture in the city's summer calendar. Tourism Councilor Teresa Armato has called it a "successful experiment" that is now a fixed part of the festival. In just a few years, it has become one of the iconic events of the Neapolitan summer, later replicated by other free musical moments throughout the city on the same day.
The initiative is part of the Naples City Council's strategy to extend the tourist season and promote the hilly districts of the Metropolitan City of Naples, in Campania. Posillipo, with its villas, ramps, and viewpoints, is the heart of this operation: a landscape heritage that the very concept of a "dawn concert" showcases without the need for stage sets. For those spending Ferragosto in the city, it is the most evocative alternative to the crowded beaches.
For August 15, 2026, the City of Naples confirms the "Note Incantate" dawn concert on the panoramic terrace of Sant'Antonio in Posillipo, one of the signature events of the fifth edition of "Vedi Napoli d'estate e poi Torni", scheduled from July 2 to October 4, 2026.
The event combines the great Neapolitan and Mediterranean musical heritage with the magic of the sunrise over the Gulf, in one of the city's most spectacular viewpoints. As with all initiatives in the festival, participation is free with mandatory reservation on the Eventbrite platform.
To reach the terrace at that hour, the Tourism Department provides two free shuttles departing at 4:00 AM, one from Via Brin and one from Piazza Municipio; shuttle seats must also be reserved on Eventbrite. Along with the concert, the 2026 program includes 18 free galeon tours of the Gulf with Amedeo Colella and 10 City of Naples Mystery Tours.
August 15th, at dawn: in previous editions, the start time was set for 5:00 AM. It is advisable to arrive early, as space on the terrace is limited.
