Open-air opera in the heart of Puglia

Just a few kilometers from Bari, the town of Noicattaro preserves a cultural tradition that few places of its size can boast: a true summer opera season. Noicattaro Opera is the annual event that brings a major title from the Italian operatic repertoire to an outdoor stage, turning the squares and green spaces of this Bari-province town into a theater under the stars.
The festival began in the spring of 2010, initiated by the social promotion association Noicattaro Nerazzurra, founded by a group of enthusiasts aiming to contribute to the town's socio-cultural development. The idea was as simple as it was ambitious: to showcase opera singers born in Noicattaro and give the community the chance to experience live opera without having to travel to major theaters. Since then, the event has grown year after year under the artistic direction of Maestro Giovanni Rinaldi.
The successive editions form a small living museum of Italian opera: Tosca (2010), La Traviata (2011), La Bohème (2012), Aida (2013)—remembered as one of the first open-air performances in Puglia—Cavalleria Rusticana (2014), and Madama Butterfly (2015). In more recent years, the festival has featured high-profile titles, such as Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto, performed in the summer of 2025.
For 2026, the association has announced the return of Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfly, which will be staged at Parco Aldo Moro. Seats are limited and tickets usually go on sale well in advance. Exact dates, cast, and times have not yet been published: it is advisable to follow the association's official channels so as not to miss the opening of ticket sales.
Noicattaro Opera is a small jewel of Puglian cultural life: proof that opera in Puglia can be a community event, open to everyone and deeply rooted in its territory.
The 2026 edition of Noicattaro Opera centers on Madama Butterfly, the famous three-act drama by Giacomo Puccini, announced by the association at Parco Aldo Moro in Noicattaro. It is one of the most beloved and poignant titles in the Puccini repertoire, already performed in Noicattaro in 2015.
At the moment, the association has confirmed the opera and the venue, but has not yet released the precise dates, cast, start times, or ticket prices. As this is an event with limited seating, tickets are usually released in advance. This page will be updated as soon as the detailed program is published on official channels.
