Festival on artificial intelligence, digital rights, and work
NINA — Not Intelligent Nor Artificial is the festival that in Milan tackles, with a critical and independent perspective, the major themes of artificial intelligence, digital rights, and work in the age of algorithms. The name itself, a play on the AI acronym, declares the intent: to dismantle the rhetoric of neutral and "intelligent" technology to bring people, communities, and their rights back to the center.
The festival takes place in the spaces of Municipality 9, in the northern area of Milan, between two symbolic places of the neighborhood's social culture: Rob de Matt (via Butti 18), a workshop-restaurant and inclusion center, and Nuovo Armenia (via Livigno 9), an intercultural space created from the recovery of a former warehouse. The choice of these venues, supported by the patronage of Municipality 9, anchors the festival in a dimension of proximity and civic engagement.
The program intertwines talks with international scholars and activists, practical workshops, artistic performances, and exhibitions. The topics covered range from data colonialism to facial recognition, from the digital union to working conditions on platforms, up to new forms of algorithmic surveillance. A journey that combines art, research, and activism to build critical thinking about the incomputable, i.e., everything that cannot and "does not deserve" to be reduced to calculation.
In a city like Milan, a capital of innovation and digital technology, NINA represents an alternative and necessary voice: a place to discuss the social effects of technology without naivety, giving space to those who defend digital and labor rights every day. Organized by the N.I.N.A APS association, the festival is free and open to all.
For those who truly want to understand what lies behind the words "artificial intelligence," NINA offers a rare opportunity for dialogue with competent and independent voices, far from slogans and trends. Three days to reflect, participate, and get involved, in a vibrant neighborhood like Municipality 9.
The 2026 edition of NINA — Not Intelligent Nor Artificial is held from May 8 to 10 in the spaces of Municipality 9 in Milan. The theme addresses the relationship between the incomputable — everything that cannot and "does not deserve" to be calculated — and generative artificial intelligence, LLMs, and algorithmic governance. Three days of meetings, workshops, exhibitions, and performances, with free admission and the presence of international voices from digital research and activism.
