The convivial evening hosted by the Pro Loco Sancti Laurentii in the village of San Lorenzello
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Night Under the Stars is the initiative through which the Pro Loco Sancti Laurentii brings the streets of San Lorenzello to lifeโa small town of just over two thousand inhabitants in the province of Benevento, in the hinterland of Campania. The idea is simple and effective: choose a street and a small square in the center, set up lights and tables, bring in open-air music, and invite the whole town to spend the evening together, without grand stages or formalities. The result is a convivial event immersed in the beauty of the village, where the atmosphere matters far more than the program.
The guiding principle declared by the organizers is sharing and the rediscovery of local traditions. It is not a music festival with big names, but a community celebration where music accompanies strolling, chatting with neighbors, and moments shared under the summer sky. It follows the classic, successful model of the Pro Loco associations in the small towns of the Sannio: few resources, high volunteer participation, and a historic center that becomes an open-air living room for one night.
The heart of the evening is Via Pasquale Massone, in the center of San Lorenzello, starting in the late afternoon from 6:00 PM. The choice to start while it is still daylight is intentional: it allows families with children to participate in the first part of the evening, while the younger crowd joins after dinner, when the temperature drops and the village lights up.
First-time visitors will discover a village with much to tell. San Lorenzello sits at an altitude of about 250 meters along the Titerno River and shares a centuries-old tradition of artistic ceramics with nearby Cerreto Sannita, earning it recognition as one of Italy's official centers for ceramics. The workshops, majolica decorations, and typical colors of local production remain a defining trait of the town today.
Among the sights to see just a few steps from the festival site are the Church of San Lorenzo, rebuilt after the 1805 earthquake, the Church of the Congrega della Sanitร with its majolica works, and the former Carmelite convent, now a cultural space. Just outside the center lies the City of Dinosaurs, a theme park covering over ten thousand square meters with life-size reproductions, which is very popular with families.
In the local calendar, Night Under the Stars takes place at the beginning of August, in the days leading up to the patronal feast of Saint Lawrence the Martyr, celebrated on August 10th. For the town, it is a sort of unofficial opening of the most intense period of the summer, when emigrants and former residents return, and the village reaches its peak vitality. The reference to the stars, after all, blends naturally with the Night of Saint Lawrence and the tradition of shooting stars.
The most recent documented edition was held on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM on Via Pasquale Massone. For 2026, the Pro Loco Sancti Laurentii has not yet released official dates or a program: those wishing to attend should keep an eye on the association's social media channels and the notice boards of the Municipality of San Lorenzello, where announcements for such events often arrive just a few days in advance. The most likely timing remains the first ten days of August, in continuity with the previous year.
For a visitor on vacation in the Sannio, an evening like this is the most direct way to get in touch with the real life of a town in inland Campania, far from crowded tourist circuits. Within a few kilometers, you can combine visits to the wineries of the Valle Telesina, the historic center of Cerreto Sannita, and the natural areas of the Titerno Gorges for a weekend that blends landscape, craftsmanship, and village festivals.
As of the writing of this sheet, there are no official statements from the Pro Loco Sancti Laurentii nor notices from the Municipality of San Lorenzello regarding the 2026 Night Under the Stars. Therefore, no confirmed dates, definitive times, or musical programs are available.
The reference remains the 2025 edition, hosted on Via Pasquale Massone from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM on Friday, August 1st. Given the traditional timing close to the patronal feast of Saint Lawrence the Martyr on August 10th, the event is expected to return in the first ten days of the month in 2026 as well.
We recommend following the Pro Loco's social media channels for confirmation and considering all date information provided here as provisional.
