About Trani Summer Festival

The Night of Saint Nicholas is the summer event where Trani honors its patron saint, Saint Nicholas the Pilgrim, transforming the historic center into a spiritual, artistic, cultural, and culinary journey. The heart of the evening is the Trani Summer Festival, a showcase that opens the stage of the 'Davide Santorsola' courtyard at Palazzo Beltrani to the city's emerging young talents, blending music, performance, and religious heritage. It is a free-entry event promoted by the Patronal Feast Committee in collaboration with the Archdiocese and the City of Trani.

The Night of Saint Nicholas in Trani

The Night of Saint Nicholas is one of the most cherished summer events in Trani, located in the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani, Puglia. The evening is dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Pilgrim, the young Greek pilgrim and protector of the city, whose legacy is preserved in the majestic Romanesque Cathedral overlooking the sea. For one night, the historic center turns into a true spiritual, artistic, cultural, ecumenical, and gastronomic itinerary, weaving together popular devotion, art, and conviviality throughout the streets, squares, and palaces facing the harbor.

The Trani Summer Festival: A Stage for Young Talent

The beating heart of the evening is the Trani Summer Festival, a music showcase held in the evocative 'Davide Santorsola' courtyard of the Palazzo delle Arti Beltrani. The same stage that hosts major national and international artists throughout the year becomes, on this occasion, a space for local youth: singers, musicians, and emerging artists take the stage to express their creativity and passion before their own community. The artistic direction is entrusted to the Trani 2.0 association, led by Maestro Alessandro Giusto and a team of young organizers, in a project that highlights the creative energy of the region.

«Il Nicola Peregrino», the 17th-century sacred drama

The musical dimension is complemented by a theatrical and spiritual one with the performance of «Il Nicola Peregrino», a rare 17th-century sacred drama dedicated to the patron saint, written by Lorenzo Valerij, the city's first permanent printer. Staged in the Church of Ognissanti, in the heart of the historic center near the harbor, the show revives the theatrical conventions and stage machinery of the 17th century—the "century of wonders"—testifying to the literary and religious richness of Trani. The production is curated in collaboration with the cultural association Trani Nostra.

An itinerary in the heart of Trani

The Night of Saint Nicholas is not just a concert, but a widespread journey that invites residents and visitors to rediscover the city's heritage: the Cathedral, the alleys of the old town, churches open until late, and the corners overlooking the old harbor. Music and theater are joined by the flavors of traditional Apulian cuisine, in an evening that unites faith, culture, and popular celebration. The initiative is organized by the Trani Patronal Feast Committee together with the Archdiocese of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie and the City of Trani, as part of the festivities in honor of the patron saint.
