The great international classical music festival for young musicians
Founded in 2006 by Peter Hermes and Ilana Vered, Music Fest Perugia is now Italy's largest classical music festival for young musicians. Over its editions, it has welcomed over 1,700 students from almost every continent, transforming the Umbrian capital into an international hub for advanced musical training during the summer.
The heart of the event is the evening orchestral concerts, where students perform as soloists alongside a professional orchestra. Alongside the concerts, the programme includes masterclasses with professors, instrumental marathons, recitals, and a conducting workshop. Activities take place in the historic theatres and halls of Perugia's city centre, opening up a study experience to the public that would otherwise remain behind closed doors.
The festival offers programmes for piano, strings, voice, and opera, as well as a conducting workshop and the "Pianist Forever" format. The presence of professors from conservatories worldwide makes Perugia a meeting point for young talents and established masters.
For the public of Perugia and Umbria, Music Fest is an opportunity to listen to top-level young performers for free or at affordable prices, in a setting that showcases the musical heritage and theatres of the historic centre of the Umbrian capital.
For its twentieth anniversary, Music Fest Perugia returns to the historic centre's theatres with two sessions of work and performance. The first session runs from July 23 to August 1, the second from August 3 to 12, 2026. Student registrations close at the end of May.
The programme alternates evening concerts with the resident orchestra, masterclasses by professors, instrumental marathons, and opera productions, with the participation of students from all over the world.
Maestros Eitan Globerson, Marius Stravinsky, Alessandro Alonzi, and Andrea Fornaciari are expected on the podium. Among the professors are Tamás Ungár, Uri Segal, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Danwen Wei, Leonardo Colafelice, Ian Jones, and Eva Mei.
The detailed schedule of public concerts will be published on the official website musicfestperugia.net closer to the dates.
The festival takes place in the theatres and halls of Perugia's historic centre, which can be reached by train (Perugia Fontivegge station) and by the Minimetrò connecting the station to the centre. By car, take the Perugia exit from the E45 or the Bettolle-Perugia junction.
