About Museum Night

Every spring, Museum Night transforms Rome into a sprawling cultural hub. For one night only, the city's civic museums, academies, universities, embassies, and cultural institutes stay open until 2:00 AM for a symbolic entry fee of one euro. Concerts, exhibitions, guided tours, dance, theater, and live performances bring dozens of venues to life—from the Campidoglio to the Ara Pacis—making it one of the most anticipated evenings of the year for locals and visitors alike.

Museum Night in Rome

Museum Night is the annual event that opens the doors of the capital's cultural landmarks well beyond their usual hours. Promoted by the Municipality of Rome (Roma Capitale) through the Capitoline Superintendence for Cultural Heritage and organized by Zètema Progetto Cultura, the event is part of the broader European Museum Night calendar. It turns the city into a vast nocturnal itinerary, stretching from the heart of the Campidoglio to local neighborhood museums.

Museums for one euro until 2:00 AM

The event's hallmark is accessibility: for this night only, admission to the Civic Museums costs one euro for residents of Rome and the Metropolitan City, and two euros for non-residents, while it remains free for Roma MIC Card holders. Venues stay open until 2:00 AM, with last entry at 1:00 AM, offering the chance to experience permanent collections and temporary exhibitions in an unusual and evocative atmosphere, far from the daytime crowds.

A city-wide cultural experience

Beyond the Civic Museums, which form the core of the event, dozens of other institutions participate each year: universities, Italian and foreign academies, embassies, cultural institutes, and official venues. The program spans concerts—ranging from classical and pop to jazz, electronic, and ethnic music—as well as exhibitions, guided tours, performances of dance and theater, workshops, and screenings, spread across a network that covers the entire urban area.

An event for Rome and the Lazio region

Born as the Roman branch of the European Museum Night, the event has become one of the capital's most popular cultural highlights, drawing tens of thousands of visitors in a single evening. For Rome, the capital of the Lazio region, it is a key opportunity to showcase its artistic and archaeological heritage while engaging a broad and diverse audience, including families and younger generations. The combination of a symbolic price, late-night access, and a rich program makes it a defining fixture of the Roman cultural calendar.
