The cherries of the Ticino in celebration

On June 2nd, while Italy celebrates Republic Day, Motta Visconti — a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Milan in the heart of the Ticino Park — celebrates the fruit that has always represented it: the cherry. The Cherry Festival is one of the most beloved events in the Motta calendar and is part of the rich program of the 'Giugno Mottese' (Motta June).

The 'sciréensc', an iconic fruit

The absolute stars are the 'sciréensc', the local cherries grown along the banks of the Ticino river. They are very sweet and delicate varieties, not well-suited for preservation and perfect to be enjoyed freshly picked: a small gastronomic treasure closely linked to the territory and its agricultural tradition. During the festival, you can not only taste them but also buy cherry trees of the typical varieties, to take home a piece of the Ticino Park.

A day for the whole family

From 10 am to 8 pm, the historic center of Motta Visconti is filled with stalls, children's entertainment, shows, and performances. It is a festival designed for families, where the promotion of a local agricultural product becomes an occasion for gathering and promoting the territory. The Cherry Festival well illustrates the bond between Motta Visconti, its countryside, and the Ticino river that shapes its landscape.
