About Music Festival

Every June 21st, on the summer solstice, Montelanico joins the Festa della Musica, a national initiative bringing live music to public squares across Italy. For one night, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II transforms into an open-air stage featuring a mix of professional musicians and local young talent, with a program spanning various genres. Admission is free, and the evening is designed for everyone: families, young people, and curious visitors exploring the Monti Lepini.

A square turned into a stage

The Montelanico Music Festival is the event through which this small town in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the Lazio region, celebrates the summer solstice. On the evening of June 21st, the central Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, the town's civic heart and home to the Town Hall, becomes an open-air stage: music fills the air among the stone houses of the historic center, with the audience enjoying the show from cafรฉ tables or standing right in front of the stage.

A national initiative

The event is part of the Festa della Musica, a widespread celebration that takes place every year on June 21st, bringing together thousands of free events across Italy: from major cities to the smallest villages, the formula remains the sameโ€”live music in public spaces open to everyone. Montelanico participates thanks to the Pro Loco Montelanico APS, with the support of the Municipality and the inclusion in the event calendar of the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital.

The music

The lineup is not dedicated to a single genre: the choice is to bring together professional musicians and young local talent on the same night, with sets following one another throughout the evening. The 2025 edition featured performances by Aura and Marilyn, Price, and Cristiano Casini, in a program that combined pop, singer-songwriter, and easy-listening repertoires. It is a formula that also gives space to those just starting out, in a setting where the audience is very close to the artists.

An summer that starts here

For Montelanico, the Music Festival has a value that goes beyond a single evening: it is the way the town kicks off the summer season, after months when social life is concentrated in local venues. The square fills up again, shops stay open late, and those living outside the town find an excuse to return. The Montelanico calendar continues in the autumn with the town's most iconic event, the Chestnut Festival, also organized by the Pro Loco.

Montelanico and the Monti Lepini

Montelanico is a village of just over two thousand inhabitants nestled at about 300 meters above sea level on the northern slopes of the Monti Lepini, between the Sacco Valley and the ridges separating the Roman province from the Ciociaria area. The historic center preserves the Church of San Pietro, with its 18th-century layout and Baroque style, and the 19th-century fountain adorned with cherubs, which is one of the town's symbols. The surrounding area is characterized by chestnut groves, hiking trails, and small farms: a rural setting less than an hour from Rome that offers cool evenings and clear skies in the summer.

Why visit

  • Free admission: no tickets, just show up and listen.
  • Family-friendly: evening hours but not late-night, suitable for children.
  • Human scale: one square, one stage, no queues, and no crowds.
  • Local territory: an opportunity to discover a Lepini village off the beaten tourist path.

Those who arrive early can spend the late afternoon walking through the historic center or along the trails leading up toward the mountains, before heading down to the square at sunset when the first sets begin.

Music Festival โ€” edition 2026

On June 21, 2026, the Music Festival returns throughout Italy for its 32nd national edition, dedicated to the theme "The voice of places" and choral music. In Montelanico, the solstice appointment is traditionally hosted in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II by the Pro Loco: an open-air stage, free admission, and a program alternating professional musicians and local youth.

2026 Music Festival in Montelanico

The Music Festival falls as always on June 21st, the day of the summer solstice, and in 2026 it reaches its 32nd Italian edition, built around the theme "The voice of places" and the role of choirs in the territories. It is a widespread event: every municipality, association, or Pro Loco joins by registering its own event and organizing free concerts in public spaces.

In Montelanico, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, the evening is usually held in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, starting in the early evening with free admission. At the time of writing, a detailed program for the 2026 edition in Montelanico has not been published: it is recommended to check for updates on the channels of the Pro Loco Montelanico APS and the Municipality, which usually release the poster in the days immediately preceding June 21st.
