The historic three-day running and walking event through the Soave vineyards
Born in the seventies, the Montefortiana has become one of the most important running events in the Veneto region. Organized by UISP Verona along with local entities, it takes place in Monteforte d'Alpone, in the province of Verona, in the heart of the Soave Classico wine area. In 2026, it reaches its 49th edition, with over 16,500 participants expected across various distances.
The event is not just a simple race; it's an entire weekend alternating competitive races, non-competitive walks open to everyone, hill trail runs, and events for children. Distances range from the challenging Ecomaratona Clivus (45 km and 1,900 m elevation gain, the "queen" of the event) to the Ecorun Collis (26 km), and the Maratonina Falconeri (the "21 km of Soave"), as well as the Trofeo Sant'Antonio Abate with routes of 6, 9, 14, and 20 km, punctuated by numerous refreshment points offering local specialties.
The Montefortiana is inextricably linked to the feast of the patron saint Sant'Antonio Abate and the third Sunday of January. Alongside sports, there are also solidarity initiatives, such as the historic "Per il sorriso dei bambini" (For the smile of children) walk, and cultural moments like the "Passi nel Tempo" (Steps in Time) walk along the renovated 10 Capitelli route, through the Garganega vineyards of Soave Classico. An event that perfectly captures the spirit of the Val d'Alpone: sporty, welcoming, and deeply connected to its land.
The 2026 edition, celebrating its 49th anniversary, confirmed the successful formula of the great three-day running event in Val d'Alpone. Preceded on January 10 by the "Aspettando la Montefortiana" (Waiting for Montefortiana) event with the Giro dei Capitelli, the festival offered a rich program for athletes, walkers, and families, coinciding with the feast of the patron saint Sant'Antonio Abate.
Monteforte d'Alpone is located about 25 km east of Verona. By car: A4 motorway, Soave-San Bonifacio exit. By train: San Bonifacio station, then bus or taxi.
Online registration via the ENDU platform and the official website www.montefortiana.org. Fees vary depending on the chosen race or walk. Numerous race kits and refreshment points along the routes.
